|
|
The Bournemouth Daily Echo has reported that three speed cameras have now been destroyed in East Dorset, all within the past month.
Firefighters who tackled the latest incident took 10 minutes to put out the blaze, but the camera was completely destroyed.
This comes at a time when Bournemouth's local councillors are still pondering whether to follow Swindon and decommission the area's fixed speed cameras altogether.
The local council continues to investigate whether its 20 fixed speed cameras have reduced speeding and accidents and whether funds could be diverted to other road safety projects and road improvements. _________________ Robert Brady |

I still think the funniest thing I saw was one boxingday when someone had gone along the A505 between Royston and Baldock and pulled down 3 of the 6 cameras...
But better still was that evening, on my way home, I noticed that someone else had forced open one of the housings and nicked the camera inside |

This is happening a lot in London/Kent. There have been several on the A20 burnt out and now left as bear posts. Just up the road another 2 were burnt out. They were replaced within a month, only to be burnt out again. They were missing for over a year but I noticed the other day they have now been replaced again. I wonder how long these will last? |

I can report that about 10 years ago when Gatsos first appeared in Dorset, they were being shot at by .22 rounds and /or 12 bore AAA.They then cost about £35,000 a go..!!! |

I guess you now understand why you don't see speed cameras much in the USA ... you'd be amazed how much damage an assault rife can do to sensitive electronics.
I've always been surprised that it doesn't happen more here.
I also heard an interesting story in Holland where someone was creating translucent stickers that were placed over the lens. They weren't obvious but complete ruined the picture ...

Transculent stickers huh? That's quite clever actually!
It means that you cannot notice it on the camera, unless they empty the film and see all the pictures blury beyond recognition!!! |
