Hello All
before i start i'd like to mention this isn't a "Rant" so please don't shoot me down, i know and understand the hard work and effort put into this site. (all party's)
Right here go's,
as the mods / or admin can probably tell i haven't been on here for quite some considerable time, however took time out today to log back on and see whats been going on, simply as i am due to go on hols to the coast shortly, i wanted to make sure i was covered via my helpful little TomTom one!
firstly i have noticed the site appears to have a nice fresh look about it, so nice one there!
Secondly, i'd like to mention i have noticed an increase in price for the upload yearly subscription of the speed camera datbase,
Now, back in December 2008 i was made redundant (i can hear in the back ground "not that ole chesnut") Really its ok, and i'm not in any way pleading poverty or on the scrat for a freebe!
The last time i subscribed it had gone from a couple of quid (prior to this it was free) to £10, yet as time and devotion is required to provided such a service you can understand why there is an increase in the subscription.
Is there any way these downloads of speed camera's do an up to date download for example say for the latest files and not a whole year?
I know they used to, and again i hear people saying its a small price to pay against the cost of 3 points + / a fine, i wanted to update my Tom Tom to go on holiday for a week but simply can't afford 19.99 for a 12 month subscription when i simply wouldn't justify the usage once i had paid for 12 months, i am going to the coast as many others are this year simply because people are on a budget and are watching pennies under the circumstances, i am also aware of the submission or reports of camera's first sighted by any individual provides life time subscription free, so i will be on the look out!
Any info on this would be great, thanks for looking in and sorry for the massive lengthy post
Kind Regards
Slimsta

The £2 monthly subscription was removed because too many people were downloading it once, then selling pirated copies of the database via ebay, etc. I don't recall there ever being a £10 subscription. _________________ Garmin DriveSmart 50 LMT-D
Hi Daggers
that makes sense then, if people were only downloading once and then reselling the files, shame really it's ruined it for individuals that are not always using their sat navs all year round.
With reference to the £10 subscription per year, is it possible someone could clarify this please? i am sure it was £9.99 / £10, i have only subscribed the once and so Thats why it sticks in my head at that price and not £19.99 ?
i have got an old activation email 20 November 2006 with a link to finish the activation off, however when you click on this link now for obvious reasons - this appears -
"There is no user in the database with this information.
You can register a new user from here"
regards

Bloody hell !
Shows how long ago i used it then !
Anyway, thanks, i not trying to go any where with this, was just curious, i was convinced it was a £10 can't remember paying that much for it, and certainly don't remember the special, it's not a priority within my budget at present, just have to drive more aware for the time being.

Be aware that there are conditions to this offer, two of which are
1. You MUST be a subscribed member at the time you report.
2. You have to be the first to accurately report. Most, if not all, new cameras are submitted by a large number of members. It takes some doing to be both accurate and first.
Nevertheless, several free memberships are awarded every week. _________________ Dennis

I might be wrong but as far as I understand it you don't have to be a subscriber to gain a life time membership if you are the first to submit a non-UK/ROI camera and it gets verified.

that's correct - the offer for free lifetime subs is open to all (subscribers and non-subscribers) for any non-uk/eire country (i.e. not england, northern ireland, scotland, wales, irish republic)
as other countries get better then they will start top be excluded from the offer - eg australia coverage is getting very good so will, at some point, be excluded.
