Must have been a fortuitous mistake because at Currys online the USB version is £54.99 and the older version is <£5... |

These are still available on a reserve and collect basis at High Wycombe Currys store. Guess that means there are a few still kicking around |

Update:- Reserved and Collected at Currys. Box was open but assured this was done to check everything was inside! Drove to Slough - not even a trace of a signal. Journey time about 1 hour so plenty of time and hills for it to receive a signal. Didn't even get the Traffic Bar. Obviously a faulty unit which had been returned. Asked for a replacement which had not been opened - "Sorry that was the last one " !!! Should I bother to look elsewhere? Is the USB unit any better for reception? |

Further to my post on the add on TomTom Traffic unit, which I am still seething about. I wish I had not bothered after reading the reviews on this site:
http://www.tracyandmatt.co.uk/blogs/index.php/2007/11/23/tomtom_rds_tmc_addon_review
Mike Alder is quoted and his pics. have been used. Most of the posts are negative about this unit and also TomTom's after sales service gets a big thumbs down. |

It is probably not faulty, it can be very difficult to get a signal, I would experiment to see by where you place the aerial what you can get, but at that price is it worth the petrol and time to take it back?
I have two different types and have found them to be of little use to date. _________________ Drivelux |

Mine works OK. Sometimes it take 30 mins to get a signal other times (like tonight at Stockport station) it picked up a signal within 30 seconds.

And so it should you were only 21 miles from Winter Hill (Real FM previously known as Century FM) and 15 miles from Holme Moss which is a Classic FM transmitter station, both the masts send out iTIS data for the TomTom RDS receivers to pick up - TBH anywhere around Manchester will work fine, it should do as iTIS are based in Altringham IIRC - Mike |

Got mine when it was £4.97. I had read all the negative reviews, but thought it might be worth a try... So far, it has worked really well, both on local and long distance journeys. Delays shown have been accurate and have updated as the journey progressed. Reception is normally locked on inside half a minute and I have seen very few occasions where it has dropped out.
Best fiver I have spent for a while... _________________ GO 750 Live HD Traffic, Map Europe 930, Navcore 9.510 |

I can't see a single PC World or Currys store near me that has them though.
...closest I've found is about 80 miles away - both PC World and Currys in the same town
Strange how the results are SO similar for both shops... |

This seems to be out of stock everywhere, but still available for free home delivery.
I've just ordered 6 (2X3) at £1.97 each as they are still fetching £10+ on eBay.
It is worth noting though that they are Version 3 models and the latest Version 4 model gets better reviews, but it is 15 times more expensive!!!

But the version 3 receiver can remained powered from the PND with the cars ignition switched off, this offers the ability to maintain the signal lock which can be important in use.
The version 4 (Mini USB) style device dumps the connection as soon as you turn the power off to the device (removal of ignition key for example), it can take ages for it to re-acquire the signal depending upon location.
For the above reaons I consider the older round style plug type receiver a better option so while they are still available grab a bargain - Mike |

Thanks Mike.
I only started looking at these a couple of days ago, so your info was very helpful to me and reassuring.
I just might order some more
