Hi all, i'm in the process of updating my TTXL as i haven't done it for a while i'm hoping it will fix my problem but has anyone heard of where it stays on the splash screen for at least 5 minutes before reaching the map screen? it seems to have happened all of a sudden albeit a while ago and as i'm only using it a handful of times per year, have only now set some spare time to update and hopefully fix it. I'm currently copying the contents to my HDD although its now 15 mins in and only 3/4 way done. Could it be the memory card failing? I have an extreme card in my camera which i can copy the contents to to see if that is the case as i only have a cheapo SD card in my TT. |

Are you using TomTom Home to do your update? |

It's not the memory card, sandisk extreme 3 takes exactly the same time, 5 mins, and that was copying the files over using windows explorer |

i think i have fixed it, i had every single POI ticked to show on map. When i unticked them all and restarted the TT it loaded straight away. One question though, should i have some POI's listed twice, the second of the two listed with PGPSW at the end? On the majority of my POI's this is the case. |

Yes, having lots of poi's shown on the map will slow down TT.
Can you show us a screen shot of what you mean by seeing the same poi listed twice.
You may know this. But is you create a folder in the main root directory of your TT, called 'screen' (without the quotes), then create a file inside that folder called 'capture' (without the quotes), you can then take screen shots of any screen by just tapping the top left-hand corner of the screen.
The files can then be downloaded from the screen folder via explorer. |

Some time ago, PGPSW changed all the file names of their POIs, to add _PGPSW to the end of each name.
If you are sure that all of your POIs without this in the name do, in fact, still come from PGPSW, then it's likely that they are old versions of the files that you have since re-dowmloaded. You may as well deleted all the old versions of the ov2 & bmp files. _________________ Garmin DriveSmart 50 LMT-D |

I have 1534 files in my Western_Europe_1GB folder. Going through them will take an age. Will it be easier to keep the map files i need (hopefully just a handful and if so what are they called?) and then remove everything else and re add the newer files i downloaded last week (POIs and cameras)? |

Probably - if you know what POIs and speed cameras you had downloaded, or want to have on the TT.
You can of course sort them by file type to make the deleting easier. _________________ Garmin DriveSmart 50 LMT-D |

Exactly....
Once you have a Windows Explorer view of the contents of the named map folder, just click on the "Type" column heading to sort by that column (if you can't see a "type" column, right click on any one of the column headings and select "type" from the list).
On my pc, all the .bmp POI icon files show up as "Bitmap Image" in that column, and all the .ov2 POI files show up in that column as "TomTom Binary", but that is because I have got that file extension (.ov2) registered as that function, your PC may not have done that yet.
If you cannot see the three letter extensions (.bmp, .ov2 etc.) at all, you need to go to the Tools menu in Windows Explorer, select "Folder options" then the "View" tab and UN-TICK "Hide extensions for known file types".
Basically, all you need to do is delete all the .ov2 files you don't want and all the .bmp files with matching names as well. |
