Posted: Thu Jun 25, 2009 9:50 am Post subject: GO 720 sound issues after update |
|
|
Hi all,
Haven't updated my Go 720 for about 9 months.
Tomtom home hates me and always makes something go wrong with my tomtom, so I avoid it like the plague.
Anyway, recently it was struggling recently to get gps fixes, so I bit the bullet and downloaded the latest tomtom home, hooked up and updated.
I tried to do a backup and resotre first, but home told me my device didnt support this?! I know at this point I should hav eunplugged it and run off, but silly me went ahead an installed all the updates.
Now everything running great apart from the sound. Was finne before the update, now I have intermittent sound.
Some days - fine - other days absolutely nothing.
Can anyone suggest some things for me to try to rectify it It can't be a hardware issue surely?
Thanks
G |

When you say 'sound', is this the voices you are referring to? And, if so, the recorded voices or computer voices?
Or, by 'sounds', do you mean the built in sounds that are utilized as warning sounds?? _________________ David |

Also before you do anything else read the TomTom FAQ especially Number 1, which details how to make a backup with Windows Explorer. Never use TT Home to backup and restore the device
Secondly which updates did you install? |

guys - thanks for replies - work been hell so this is first chance i have had to sit down and have another go at sorting this out.
tomtom home 2.6 tells me that i have installed 8.351 version of tomtom
i am still getting intermittent sound. by sound i mean all sounds. one minute the voice will work then stop - and all of the voices, computer and human.
yesterday i was getting speed camera alerts for a few miles then they stopped.
then i was getting speed limit alerts and again they stopped.
its driving me insane. m6 was closed last night and i was re routed through cheshire and its a nuisance having to watch the screen and the road.
help! |

Download the ClearFlash tool from TT and run it.
Then do a hard reset and run clear flash again.
Make sure HOME is not running - exit the icon in the system tray before starting. |

If you view the device using Windows Explorer and right click the drive letter associated with the device then click "Properties" how much free space is available? - A lack of available storage space can cause strange behaviour and this is easy to resolve by removing certain files from the unit or transfering the map to an SD card - Mike |

mike - the map is on my 2gb sd card - so the available space on the hard drive of the tomtom is over 1 GB |

The plot thickens .......
The map is on the SD card - where do you have the voices and the Navcore app?
Try copying the map to the main memory and then trying again.
The latest applications have exhibited some odd behaviour when using the SD card and the internal memory at the same time.
For troubleshooting purposes run EVERYTHING from the internal memory, with no SD Card in the device.
If you ran clear flash where did you install it to - the main memory or the SD card?
Also, after taking out the SD Card ensure all your voices are up to date using HOME. |

thanks andy,
ok i've moved the map to the tomtom, taken out the sd card and run ttflash again - it doesn't give me an option of where i want to install it, but given that I ran it with no sd card in I can only assume that it installed in the tomtom memory.
all went ok until i got to your last step - and now there is no room for any voices on the tomtom.
windows explorer is saying that the capacity is 1.91gb and there is 1.87gb used.
i only have the map, the application, speed cameras and postcodes on there.
my map is western europe and its 1.66gb
i really do appreciate the help
thanks

i think we are getting there, i've managed to get a non computer voice on and its working.
if i can get some guidance on how to fit a computer voice on then i think its sorted!
edit: just looking at my file structure on the tomtom and i have a folder called Tomtom (J) - when i open this it seems to have similar folders as my route directory - is this anything to do with why i have no space?
edit 2: getting impatient so started deleting files in this folder that seem to be duplicates of those in the root directory - done that - copied a computer voice over, and *i think* its sorted - will take it out for a spin to try it.
thanks again for all your help - what the hell do i need an sd card for now??!! |

Why a card? To avoid all the aggrevation you're having with space on internal flash memory.
I would strongly suggest you get a 4-gig sdhc card and put your map on it. Lots of room to then add more computer voices to the Loquendo folder using Home.
Plus flexibility to add mp3'/photos on the card (or internal) as you'll have more storage space to play with.
My opinion, anyway........ _________________ David |

If you download this utility
DriveZ, it will let you show contents of a folder and be able to copy & paste contents to a location (like a post here).
So, if you provide relevant info using that tool, someone here should be able to advise. _________________ David |
