When I first got my TT520, I was able to operate it with simple spoken commands. For example, when it offered me an alternative route due to traffic, I could shout "Yes" or "No" at the device to determine whether to accept this alternative (Usually "No" when it tried to take me through Birmingham at Rush Hour when there was a 5-minute delay on the M6!)
Recently, I've noticed that I'm not offered this option any longer. I'm not sure whether it was lost during a recent software upgrade, or if I've accidentally turned it off at some point.
Whatever the reason, I can't find how to turn it back on again. Can anybody help? Has it disappeared altogether, or am I just being thick and unable to find it? _________________ Garmin DriveSmart 50 LMT-D |

On my 740 it's
Change Preferences, Voice Control Preferences (4 of 8), Enable Voice Control
However not sure if it'll be the same on your unit... |

The 520 AFAIK does not take spoken commands, it only allows you to "navigate to" "address" "spoken address" or "spoken address dialogue". _________________ Drivelux |

Thanks guys, but ...
PaulB - No that menu option isn't available on the 520.
MrT - The 520 certainly used to accept other spoken commands, there's no doubt about that. When were they removed? _________________ Garmin DriveSmart 50 LMT-D |

It's normally activated in the shortcut menu.
Check your map is not missing the Cspeech files.
If you downloaded a map from TomTom the Cspeech files may still be in the original map download on your PC hard drive.
If so, just copy the files to your map folder, or if you don't have enough room, then put the map on a SD card. |

They weren't removed, the cspeech files for GBR & IRL are still in the latest UK&Imap download v8.35 for the 520. Maybe you need to find the latest map download file on your PC and open the large zip file and copy the two cspeech files to the map directory on the Go.
I am not aware of any settings for this on the 520 apart that I think you must have "computer" voice such as Jane installed for it to work. _________________ Drivelux |

Mine is exactly the same - it no longer has spoken commands for the traffic delays.
Have you tried the navigate to spoken address option - does it work?
If you have never used it then the first thing it does is ask you to choose the language - maybe when that is done it will turn back on the spoken commands?
I seem to remember it disappeared with 8.300 but can't be sure.
I will check mine later and post back. |

My 720 had lost the 'zip' folder so there were no full postcodes and also the 'navigate to dialogue' has also gone. All files seem present but I can't talk to it anymore!
Any clues anyone?
Going to reinstall old backup and then move the new map in and see what that does.

I've now tried the Spoken Address option and been able to experience traffic delays following this (there haven't been that many delays during half term week!).
The simple answer is No - this hasn't turned the other spoken commands back on. _________________ Garmin DriveSmart 50 LMT-D |

I'm afraid I'm with Mr T here... I cannot remember the x20/x30 models ever doing what you say....
I'm pretty sure I only ever had "Navigate to... Spoken Address" or "Spoken Address (Dialogue)" (Plus the similar option on the "City Centre" and "Crossing" pages)
Do you have an early backup which you could pop back on to prove us wrong? |

I seem to remember when I first got my 520 when you spoke the place name it gave you a numbered list of possibles from which you could then say the desired number. This has been absent for ages now, not sure when it disappeared as I didin't very often use the spoken commands.
Looking at the ttgo.bif for the backup dated 19-07-2008 gives this info
DeviceName=TomTom GO 520
DeviceVersionHW=GO 520
DeviceSerialNumber=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
DeviceUniqueID=xxxxxxxxxxxxx
RamDiskVersion=20080529
BootLoaderVersion=54106
LinuxVersion=190943
ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=8010
ApplicationVersion=9369
UserLanguage=English UK
.
.
CurrentMap=United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland
CurrentMapVersion=715.1703
Or did I just imagine all this... |

Just for the sake of clarity, which other spoken commands are you referring to?
IIRC only the Navigate to.. options and the shouting yes and no at traffic reroutes (which wasn't in Navcore 7 but I think was in 8.010) are the only spoken commands that were on my 920.
I could be wrong though as I don't use them. |

I am sure that was on my 720 at launch so must have been on Navcore 7. |

Mine used to let me shout Yes or No to the traffic reroute question. I honestly can't remember which Navcore did it, nor when it stopped, but stop it did. Now, the nice lady asks me if I want to reroute, but instead of putting up the dialogue listening thing, it offers me two buttons to tap, Yes and No. _________________ Dennis
