|
|
One advantage of a POI vs a Favourite (I think) is the ability to add a phone number. The only way I can seem to do this is on the device itself.
Where are these telephone settings saved? I expected them to be added to the .ov2 file itself (niavely), but I cannot see (or add them) them using normal tools like POI Edit or www.poieditor.com.
Any ideas?
Cheers,

Hi MarkWorthington,
IIRC you need to use the "Greater Than sign", the one that points to the right, i.e. SHIFT + the fullstop button on a UK keyboard. I can't use it in the forum as it's seen as an HTLM tag.
You just type the name of the location, followed by the "Greater Than sign" and then the phone number. Don't forget to use international dial code.
Example
[GTS] = "Greater Than sign"
The UK attraction, Alton Towers Theme Park, with the telephone number of 01538 704600 might be displayed as POI with international dialling code as:
Theme Park, Alton Towers[GTS]441538704600
By the way, if you only have a 0844, 0845, 0870 or 0871 number for the company, which costs a lot on a mobile, you can often get the equivalent geographical number (which are cheaper or even included for free in your monthly mobile tariff) from the SAYNOTO0870.COM website.

Great tip! Another undocumented one! (I was aware of the SAYNOTO0870.COM website, but thanks for that, too).
Now I look more closely at an entry using my POI editors, I do indeed see the name[GTS]number format. One thing that threw me was that the .ov2 file's timestamp was not updated (as viewd in Explorer) by the device itself.
Next related question : when driving to a POI, what's the quickest way to use the device to phone them (via my Bluetooth connected mobile)?
Cheers,

I'm going to presume (I hope correctly) that you have a TomTom PND with the current or nearly current Application.
Firstly
Ensure that your TomTom PND is definitely connected by Bluetooth to your phone.
Ensure that you have navigated to a POI that has a valid telephone number.
Tap Screen | Mobile Phone | Call... | Point of Interest | the POI destination

Haven't I seen somebody posting how to create a POI file in Excel then save as CSV and/or as OV2 using makeov2.exe. I'd presume this would work as an edit function with existing POIs for adding phone numbers? _________________ Dennis
