I would leave it a few days and see if a new software version appears. |

Hi Had this reply from Tom Tom Support.
Don't know if it will of any help
Paul
We are aware of the current problems associated with the latest application download and are trying to resolve the issues.
In the mean time here are some steps to perform to try and resolve the issue with RDS TMC reciever.
1- Close TomTom HOME (make sure to exit through the system tray in the bottom right hand corner next to the clock)
2 - Delete the files in the download folder
3 - Delete the loose files and the yellow folder "GNS" from the root directory of the device (go to My Computer, select your TomTom, and this is the root directory)
4 - Start TomTom HOME and update to the latest application
5 - Perform a disk error check with both options ticked
For the volume issue you can;
1.- Check the volume preferences and make sure that "link volume to noise level" is not ticked and that volume is set to 100%.
OR,
2. - Use the line out or FM transmitter instead of the internal speaker. |

Does anybody know what files are critical to the running of the USB TMC, and the contents. |

So far I have found the following:
In the Root Folder
mctx.dat
mctx.txt
and in gns Folder
TmcEApi.so
There may be others.

I tried the RDS on a 910 which has not been upgraded and it works, took a long time to tune in. So the problem is either my 930 or the s/w upgrade. My money is that it was down to the s/w upgrade!!

Thanks for the reply. I don't seem to have the 'mctx.txt' file. Could you tell me the contents of it so I can recreate it on my device.

Gerry,
I don't think its an important file as it wasn't on my other device. Here's the contents:
In France using ViaMichelin
In UK using ITIS
In Finland using Destia
In Italy using Infoblu
In Germany using TMCPro
In Sydney, New South Wales, Australia using Intelematics
In Melbourne, Victoria, Australia using Intelematics
In Brisbane, Queensland, Australia using Intelematics
I beieve with the latest s/w upgrade there was a change to the boot loader as well.

Thanks Ian. I might as well try recreating the file, I have run out of other options.

Can anyone who has a working USB TMC tell me if the contents of their 'mctx.dat' file contains 22220 or something else.

Don't have the mctx.txt file, but do have the mctx.dat file. I use the x40 rdc-tmc built in mount, but the contents of mine are
TX01C°óöÌVε .•P°Q'Îw^';mµ#ó5»‡OϺïp<#ÕÿHpç
whatever that means! It does work though! _________________ Tomtom GO 1005 LIVE

The contents of mctx.dat are different depending on which version of the tomtom software is loaded. The 22220 version appears on devices running older software, the version with the gibberish in it appears on devices running newer software. _________________ Paul |

Thanks to you both for replying. I can't get my USB TMC running with either the mctx.dat file containg the gibberish or 22220. At least I now know that the file should contain gibberish.

try deleting the file as well as the contents of the gns folder.
Run clearflash and perform a hard and soft reset and then reload 8.351 again and give it another go.
Don't connect the TMC until one clean power up and shut down after the application reload.
Clutching at straws really here - you can also delete the contents of the ppp folder but you will have to re-pair any BT devices.
My mctx.dat file is full of gibberish as well if opened in a text editor - not surprising really as it is hex code not text anyway. |

Thanks for the suggestion Andy. Just tried it but it still keeps scanning. TomTom are asking me to send the 530 and the USB TMC back to them for repair. Is the USB TMC self contained i.e. it is like a minature radio that locks onto the signal or does the 530 do this?

All the RF gubbins is in the RDS-TMC receiver, the data cable between the device and the receiver is two way RS232 by the looks of it but at a lower voltage than normal 232. The Nav unit controls the RDS device making it scan to frequencies/ stay tuned to a specific one as applicable.
Its probably the receiver thats U/S but you never know for sure. an you not find someone else with a TomTom in the local area (even Halfords) and see if their units work on your device - Mike |
