I fly to the USA a lot both internationally and internally.
A recent Orlando experience:
Late evening 19:30 - 250 tired UK tourists arrive - ONE Immigration Booth operating.
A young child (approx 8 -9 years old) strays over the yellow line in front of the only open booth. Security guard yells at the child to "get back over the line" - this is the FIRST response by the guard - a LOUD yell.
10 minutes later - same child - tired, bored, 7 -8 hrs flight - only "crime" is coming to Disneyland strays over the yellow line again.
Same Security Guard de-holsters his Glock pistol and points it at the child and yells again loudly "i won't tell you again - get back behind the line until called forward".
I am used to people pointing guns at me and also personally using them - this guard had serious intent. I don't expect he would have actually fired a round but he would have done something official.
All it would have taken is a polite word to the parents.
i have seen this over zealous attitude time and time again at USA airports and the laugh is the ACTUAL Security is usually dismal (I know - don't ask!) _________________ Silva MultiNavigator

That is just ridiculous and wholly unjustifiable. Although my experience pails into insignificance in comparison it has coloured my opinion of visiting an entire continent.
Nothing is worth the treatment you get on first setting foot there and so I won't.
I have relatives who are US citizens and used to travel regularly to visit them as well as travel their on business and for vacations. I won't be travelling their next year and I won't holiday there until this issue is resolved. _________________ Darren Griffin |

if that was me i'd be fuming... that's got me really wound up actually! there's just no need... like you say, all it takes initially is a quiet word whether to an adult or a child "excuse me sir/little man/ do you mind waiting behind the yellow line, thanks" - 2nd warning: "sir, if you cross that line i will have to take further action as it is a serious security breach".
anyway, i fear i'm adding to the digressions...!!
