|
|
Oh dear. Feeling confident with all the sucess, and help from this forum, that I have had with my tomtom 730T, I thought I would be adventurous this morning with my wifes TT720 and download the camera and real voice database.
Everything went well until I downloaded the real voices. They did not work (or more likely I was doing something wrong) and I panicked and tried to delete the real voices that I installed. I think I must have deletd something else that is important as I now get an annoying red nag screen at the top right saying unable to store settings. File access error. Everything else seems to be working ok, accept there is no sounds or voice with the cameras, but still have the tt voice for the maps. I am using the original tt SD card supplied with the tt.
I stopped trying to connect to tomtom home on my wifes device as it seemed to conflict with my TT730T, so she is using version 7.903
Any ideas anyone? _________________ Ron (1):

I'm going oujt in half an hour, so I don't expect I'll be here when you reply, but it'll help somebody else look at your problem sooner than me.
1. Tell me you've got a backup of the 720 - A Windows Explorer backup, not TomTomHome. If you haven't, do one right now before you do anything else. And remember in future, every time before you start doing stuff to either of your devices, do a new Windows Explorer backup first.
2. You say you had conflicts connecting the 720 to Home - is that because you don't have SEPARATE email address login for the two devices?
3. Have you tried the reset button on the 720?
4. Are you reasonably confident with computing (I don't have time to look at your previous posts to see any clues) with such as Windows Explorer and folders/files.
Gotta go (it takes me half an hour to type stuff like this!!). BAK LATER. _________________ Dennis

Ensure you have a backup if you don't yet have one and then run TomTom's Clear Flash Tool, available with usage instructions here.
That should resolve your issue, report back either way? _________________ Darren Griffin |

Thanks for the link in showing me how to back up. I undestood the instructions and have just started to back up the tomtom SD card to my desk top when after 5 secs an error message came up 'Cannot copy triplog - 2009-04-18. The file or directory is corrupted or unreadable.'
Perhaps this is the problem? _________________ Ron (1):

Use Windows Explorr to locate the rouge file and delete it then try to repeat the backup, or you can perform the backup by copying one folder at a time from the device to the PC.
The file that is giving you problems is one the TT uses to save data about road speeds and date/ time etc, when you connect to TT Home the file gets sent to them for data gathering, the file isn't needed for correct operation of the device - Mike |

Me again folks. I am sorry to be a pest but I have more problems.
I followed your kind instructions and made a windows back up copy of my wifes TT720. I then connected the device and the problem seemed to cure itself without any further work being needed to be done. My better halfs father got admitted into Gloucester Hospital later that afternoon and she set off with her tomtom and all was well.
In the evening whilst staying in Gloucester she connected the device to the mains via the charger stand and when she turned the device back on the red warning nag box 'Unable to store settings:- File access error' reappeared on the top right of the screen. More annoyingly the Home, favourites, my location, POI and other preferences have all deleted themselves and have greyed out.
When she got home last night I re-entered all the details and everything was working fine. She needs to go back to the hospital tomorrow so I charged the TT up again and everything has been deleted again.
Can anyone help me please? Just to recap she has a TT720 running version 7.093. I dont want to connect to HOME because it is conflicting with my settings on my 730T
Your kind advices are much needed and appreciated. _________________ Ron (1):

Ron, can you tap the sat strength meter followed by the version box and the reultant screen will offer lots of information about the device, can you let us know what the software version installed is (as listed on the screen) and the map version installed to the device (this information is on the same screen on a line lower down).
Has the device been fitted with an SD card, and if so are there any maps installed to the card - I am wondering if you have two different software versions installed, one on the memory card and the other on the device - Mike |

Mike
Thanks for the quick reply
It says
App 7.903 (9183/081205) os:2344
61 mb ram (free: 25.4 mb)
gps v1.21, boot 4.8600
map: "uk_and_Ie_plus_major_roads_of_We" v660.1219
Language: English UK
I have the original tomto SD card inserted.
As you will see below everything has been working grand until I started messing around with the real voices and then tried to delete them. I think I may have deleted an important file.
Thanks Mike _________________ Ron (1):

The "original SD card" was not an SD card - it was a blank piece of plastic used to fill the slot and stop it getting yukky. _________________ Dennis

Darren.
I did not follow the process re the tomto clear flash as I thought the problem cured itself when I made the back up. Do you want me to download it now?
Dennis.
, no it's the real SD card although I do still have the plastic dummy one. _________________ Ron (1):

Where did you get this 720? Is it an e-bay or pub sale? _________________ Dennis
