Hi all,
I have a 720 tt and will fit it to my motorcycle for the odd time that I will need one, what I would like to know is can I use wired head phones with it by plugging them into one of the sockets on the bottom of the tom tom and if so which one, also would it be mono or stereo.
thanks for any help that you may give

Yes you can use headphones.
The socket is a stereo 3.5mm jack and it is the one nearest the edge of the unit, furthest from the USB socket. (The other one is a combined iPod control or Traffic receiver socket). You can use mono headphones or an earpiece, but it should still be fitted with a stereo plug, to avoid shorting out the other signal in the socket.
The only problem is that recent software has set the FM transmitter to be at full volume all the time and for some daft reason they have set the line out at full volume too! Hopefully they will correct this in a future software update, but until then it is loud enough to blow your head off.... unless you use headphones with a volume control in the cable.
Alternatively, you can sometimes find an extension lead with a volume control in it.

Here's a volume control that would be suitable from Maplin:
Stock code: L43AF - £5.99

Thanks for that , Andy_P,
Just plugged my ear phones into the socket but it is not working, the sound is still coming for the tom tom but not the ear phones, do I need to switch something in the operating system of the tom tom.

Change preferences/ Speaker preferences and switch the nav instructions and the music through to the line out option - Mike |
