Quote: | A FORMER traffic policeman and his wife are making millions of pounds running courses for drivers caught speeding, the Evening Standard reveals today.
Chris Howell is profiting from police policy which allows motorists to escape fixed three-point penalties by attending driving classes.
Last year Mr Howell and his wife Philippa received a £1.3million dividend paid by his company DriveTech. Pre-tax profits more than doubled to £2.6million - 18 months after launching London's speed awareness scheme.
Mr Howell's business is so successful he is now reckoned to be one of the highest paid ex-police officers in the country. The Association of Chief Police Officers said it was "deeply concerned" by the sums being earned by DriveTech. |

Why should ACPO be concerned at his earnings (as long as they are fairly gained)? At least his activities seem to be contributing to our economy, rather than almost destroying it, as some other much bigger earners in the news seem bent on doing! _________________ David

People are wise to the speed cameras and they aren't making enough money. The scamera partnerships could make loads of money with zero tolerance but public opinion wouldn't stand for it.
So they do the next best thing and book people for 2 MPH over the limit but send them on these "awareness courses" rather than giving them points. Face it, with the cost of running a car these days, 60 quid is nothing. 3 points on your licence could be very serious indeed.
Offering these courses softens the blow on the cash cows but still rakes in money from their cameras.
It's a scam, plain and simple. _________________ Gone fishing! |
