|
|
Has the way we copy favourites to new maps changed? I used to just copy the saved cfg file into the map folder ie maps of Western Europe.
There seems to now be a seperate folder called Cfg with birthdays etc. so do I copy the cfg file with my favourite locations into the new Cfg folder or into the map folder.
Or has there always been a seperate folder for Cfg and I have just not noticed it?
Any advice appreciated but in nice easy peasy plain english please. _________________ Tom Tom 730, app 8.010, gps v1.21, boot 5.5010 map western & central europe v810.1940 |

If you save you favourites as POIs in a custom POI file, you can just copy over the .OV2 file after you have updated the map. |

I seem to have TomTom-Cfg folder in all my x20 backups (pre x30s) although I can't see anything about birthdays.
Mapsettings.cfg has become unacceptable to some recent maps or applications. Sometimes copying it works, sometimes it doesn't. Didn't work for me moving from map 815 to 825.
Marvin has the good solution, converting favourites to POIs, which I did some long time ago when this problem first started appearing.
If you've already updated to the next map, the way to manage it is either use POI Edit to convert your old backup copy of Mapsettings.cfg to OV2 format and copy it across, or using your backups, temporarily revert to previous version, convert favourites to POI by setting up a new POI category then adding each favourite. Then restore your later update and copy the resulting POI OV2 file into it. None of this using TT Home, of course, only Windows Explorer. _________________ Dennis

just seems to me that Tomtom just seem to make things so hard for everyone i cannot see why home cannot when loading up new maps automatically copy favourite locations after all that is why we have taken the trouble to save them onto our device.

If you want to e-mail me your last working MapSettings.cfg file I will convert it to an ov2 file (POI) and send it back to you - its easy when you know how and have the software available - probably faster as weel - my e-mail button below this post is functional - Mike |

File sent back as a POI file, for anyone who want to do this simply download POIEdit from Here and open the MapSettings.cfg file with the POIEdit application, choose "SaveAs" ov2 file type and name the POI file, if you add the "_" (underscore without the "") to the start of the file name the old favourites locations will appear at the top of the POI list.
For example Mikes Favourites takes time to find in the list but _Mikes Favourites is always top of the list due to the _ character - Mike |

I owe him too
Just a query; where do I find my stored Favourites in my device on the old version - see my specs below. I want to transfer them to the updated software on my Memory card as a POI file . _________________ Gee-Pee

The MapSettings.cfg file contains the favourites and other custom settings. So, if you have a backup of an earlier map, you'll find the MapSettings.cfg file residing in that folder. _________________ David |

For info, I've recently put v825 maps on a 720 and a 940 and copying MapSettings.cfg worked on the current software version on the 940 (v8.310) and didn't with the one on the 720 (v8.302).
As TomTom say, it's a bonus when it works... |

Well, here I go with the 730 (with v.8.302) - suspect it will fail if yours did not work on the 720. (I've got it backed up) _________________ Gee-Pee

Well, it did not fail
Trouble is, as that file also contains other custom settings, I now have to go through and reset some other preferences. Still it beats installing all those Favs again. _________________ Gee-Pee

I am advised (other than by this thread) that the most effective way of transferring Favourites from my previous map is to use the converter referred to above - POI Edit. Certainly it is a simple little programme to use, so I have downloaded it and installed it. I had taken a copy of the old map so dragged the MapSettings.cfg file into the POIEdit folder and instantly the file was coverted to a TomTom ov2 file.
Strange thing is that all the favourites appear three times in the new folder.
What am I doing wrong? _________________ Gee-Pee
