Hi guys - tried asking Garmin but they weren't helpful so I have turned to the best GPS community on the web.
Basically was running GarminXT 4.6 on my Nokia E65 and whilst it was pretty slow, it could just about keep up with the car in 3D mode.
However, I upgraded to 5.0.20 and now 3d view hardly ever refreshes. 2D mode can barely keep up and often takes forever to realise I'm on a new road and off the route.
Any tips for getting it to run faster?
a) auto zoom disabled
b) map detail least
c) metro areas disabled
d) outline off
e) pois disabled other than custom ones.
f) turn preview disabled
5.0.20 I feel has better routing and is MUCH prettier so I don't really want to downgrade, but I guess i might have little choice

Sorry, wish I could help. Just to clarify, is 5.0.20 an update to GarminXT or the Nokia?

GarminXT version 5.00.20.
The phone itself is fully up-to-date and I haven't changed any underlying software other than GarminXT. |

I'm afraid i don't think you're the first to find it runs slow, think a few people have gone back to 4.2!!

Right well 4.2.00 is for S60 2nd edition so I'm not sure that will work on my 3rd edition E65 :S
Anyway, 5.0.30 came out which apparently improves battery drain and comes with faster redraw...so I'll give that a try tonight and report back.
Tested - 5.00.30 really does fix the battery drain, and it also improves performance so much i think it's faster even on demanding views than 4.6.0 XT.
Now all i need is a way to get the portugal+GBR+Greece maps rather than the whole of Eurozone |
