Published by David Quin / European Marketing Directoron February 16, 2009
February 16th, Mobile World Congress, Barcelona. ALK Technologies today announced that, in partnership with Toshiba Mobile Communications, its award-winning CoPilot Live GPS navigation system will be available for the recently announced Toshiba TG01 multimedia mobile device.
The TG01 is a ground-breaking Mobile Internet Device, offering a high resolution 4.1” colour display, in-built GPS receiver, high speed mobile Internet connectivity and an intuitive touch-screen user interface. CoPilot Live takes advantage of the phone’s GPS capabilities, providing full-featured turn-by-turn navigation and 3D or 2D widescreen map views similar to that of a premium dedicated navigation system. Detailed street maps are stored on-board the device, while useful real-time information services such as traffic alerts, fuel price information and weather conditions can be delivered dynamically from off-board via the mobile Internet.* Drivers will also be able to take advantage of CoPilot’s safety camera alerts with free camera database updates available for download directly to the phone.
The announcement marks the continuation of the on-going relationship between ALK and Toshiba, where CoPilot Live has been offered bundled with Toshiba Smartphones such as the G710. The combined solutions provide a convenient, connected and highly portable mobile navigation experience, ideal for use in-car or on-foot.
Michael Kornhauser, Vice President, ALK Technologies said “We are proud to extend our relationship with Toshiba, and pleased to announce CoPilot Live support for the amazing new TG01 at launch. Together we are able to offer an innovative and convenient navigation experience to consumers, as well as a compelling mobile data proposition for operators.”
“Toshiba designed the TG01 handset to offer the very best in design and performance. We are delighted ALK are porting their application onto our platform in order to use its full capabilities. CoPilot Live on TG01 will bring satellite navigation experience to the next level” said Bertrand Issard, Head of product planning and strategy for Toshiba Information Systems (UK) Ltd, Mobile Communications Division.
Visitors to Mobile World Congress 2009 in Barcelona will be able to see the Toshiba TG01 running CoPilot Live on the Toshiba Mobile Communications stand in Hall 8, at the CoPilot Live demonstration area on the Microsoft stand in Hall 1 or at the CoPilot Live stand in Hall 2, stand EZ6.
*CoPilot’s Live services require a mobile data connection. Availability of services will vary by region.
