Yes, it is fun to make them. Feel free to have a go.
Sorry, it sounded like you wanted to volunteer. _________________ Gerry

GpsPasSion is based in France by the way and we know how the Americans love the French _________________ Robert Brady |

Yes, but most of the english language posts I saw on GpsPasSion come from US. And anyway, we'll all love each other now, after the US election. _________________ David

As far as I'm concerned, there would never have been a USA if it weren't for France; I know my history. I just wish more people would remember that we were all friends at one time...and enemies at others, but being friends works out better for both sides...usually.
Sorry, I didn't mean to steer this in a political direction. I'm not really into the whole "world domination" thing. If you know what I mean.
Regarding making my own icons- I would love to learn how to do that! key word being "learn". I'll assume you use Photoshop to make them? Beyond that, I have no knowledge whatsoever. |

Generally icons are 22 pixels x 22 pixels x and up to 256 colours. If just black and white icon you can use just 2 colours.
Save them in .bmp file format and they have to have the same name as the poi file.
eg: for tomtom
mypoi.ov2 (poi file)
mypoi.bmp (icon file)
mypoi.ogg (sound file if required) |

Ah! So, it's probably easier for a n00b to use M$Paint? |

Hi DragonTattooz,
Yes, MS Paint is a good application for creating POI icons. In fact, if you find a good example of an American speed limit sign on the web, you might be able to use MS Paint to resize it to 22 x 22 pixels.
Have a look at Bo Peep’s Guide To Creating A POI (Point Of Interest), which describes how to make the icon as well as a POI file itself.

Much to the amusement of the staff and moderators, all my icons were made using Paint.
A good way to start is to edit one that's known to work and then work on copies of that. That way you are sure that the colour depth and dpi etc are all OK. _________________ Gerry

paint is actually great for small icons like these.
if you use photoshop etc for anything like that sort of size then you start having trouble with anti-aliasing 'blurring' the tiny text etc.
pixel art can be fun too!
if you manage to get a set sorted then, if you wanted, we could host them here for other users - similar to how we host gerryc's icons?
