|
|
My relatively new (less than 3 months old) TomTom GO730 has this morning developed a mind of it's own. Wonder if anyone else has experienced anything similar?
The screen menus are constantly flashing up and apparently selecting themselves. As soon as I switch the device on this begins to happen. It programs itself to different destinations/routes, applies roadblocks, changes preferences, attempts to dial etc etc with the screen menus changing and apparently selecting themselves very rapidly. Happening roughly two or three times per second. Hence the device is totally unusable.
Any ideas?

Was it cold when you turned it on? I wonder if condensation may be causing input? |

Thanks for the suggestion. It was nowhere near as cold this morning as it has been recently - about 7C. The device had been kept indoors overnight. _________________ TomTom GO 730 |

Have just received feedback from TomTom support suggesting that the problem may be due to a corrupt file. (I have just upgraded my Western Europe map about five days ago).
Suggested soluton is to do a full back-up and restore but also includes a disk reformat and clearing the "Flash". Will report back on whether this cures the problem but won't be trying this until next week. _________________ TomTom GO 730 |

Check that nothing is interfering with the touch screen digitiser. Dust or similar caught under the bezel could be triggering these random inputs.
Grab a small piece of a sheet of copier paper and run it around the screen edge under the bezel to dislodge any dust or grit. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Also, take off any screen protectors you may be using, Chris! |

Any particular reason? I had invisibleshields on my first two satnavs and never had a problem with them. |

Because he has an issue that 'may' be digitiser related in which case a screen protector may be involved.
If you don't have an problem then there isn't an issue _________________ Darren Griffin |

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions:
- I don't have a screen protector.
- I have cleaned out under the bezel with paper.
- I have performed a full system backup, reformat and restore as per the instructions provided by TomTom support.
Unfortunately none of this has made the slightest difference. It is as if a phantom operator is randomly tapping the screen menus.
I have reported back to TomTom support and await their further guidance.
Shall keep you updated. _________________ TomTom GO 730 |

Take or send it back to where you bought it from. They are required to sort this out since you have a contract with them (assuming you are UK based). _________________ Peter

TomTom have requested that the device be sent back to them for repair/replacement. It's gone.
Now. Where did I put that AA Road Atlas? _________________ TomTom GO 730 |
