|
|
I remember adding a file to system on my Go710 which enabled it to automatically turn on when power was applied to it.
Is it possible to do the same for my 720 ?
If so where can I find the file as I have forgotten the location of the 710 file
Many thanks

Afraid not. TT firmware of over a year ago eliminated the functionality of 'autpoweron' for TT units. _________________ David |

I've had a report that it DOES work with some recent software...
Quote: | In fact, as far as I know only versions 8.2x and 8.3x support this feature, while version 8.0x does not.
For instance, versions 8.320, 8.300, 8.203, 8.204 support this method. |
....But it didn't work on the software versions I'm using and I haven't rolled back any of my units yet to see if this is right. I suspect it isn't, but it's worth a try!
What you need to do is Use Windows Explorer to browse to the root directory of the TomTom (i.e. NOT inside any folder / where the file ttsystem can be found),
and create a new, empty text file there. Do this by right clicking in the window and selecting "new text doc.
So long as you can SEE it is called "text.doc", rename the file as "wakeup.dat". (If not, see below).
That's it! Please try it on as many different software versions you can!
(If you can't see the ".txt" bit of the name, you'll end up calling it "wakeup.dat. txt" without realising - to avoid this you need to alter Explorer's settings to show the file extensions. Do this with the Tools menu/Folder Options/ View tab and UN-tick "Hide extensions for known file types")
**Post Edited to make it more obvious that you create the text file, and then rename it.**

I think people are experiencing the PROBLEM of the unit turning on by itself when the user does NOT want it to. And that has led to battery drain on many units.
That is a completely different issue from when the user WANTS the unit to turn on when external power is detected by the unit. _________________ David |

Hi David and Andy_P
David you have hit the nail on the head -- I use a switched with the ignition system in my car, so being lazy it would suit me fine to have auto turn on,
Andy_P thanks for the info I will try tomorrow and report back

Sorry, David, but the first post seems to me he DID want the feature, and that's what I based my answer on. |

Hi Andy_P
I have just looked in the root directory on my tomtom (ver8.320) and cannot see a file called Text.doc
Do I therefore just make a new empty file called wakeup.dat or am I missing something?

I have now made the file wakeup.dat.
The file is empty and the 720 does not turn on when power is connected.
I still have to press the power button.

It also has no effect on the 940 (8.2) or the 530 (8.3) _________________ Drivelux |

It doesn't seem to work on a 520 with 8.30 either. _________________ Ric - TomTom 520 DEAD - Passed to the great traffic jam in the sky. Now using Maps & Waze on Samsung Galaxy S4 + CamerAlert of course! |
