I would like to use a 3 or 4gb sd card in my 510 to keep up with all my alterations which includes new mapping. I would like any advice on what would be the most suitable sd card
Thanks |

Hi,
I have a TT710 - which unfortunately I don't have with me at the mo.
But I have a 2Gb Sandisk SD card in there, works no problem.
Just thinking out loud here, but make sure the 5/710 can atke a 4Gb size. _________________ Triumph Tbird 1700. And now a Bonnie T100. |

Older models including yours cannot use the newer "SDHC" (SD High capacity) cards.
There are plenty of 2GB cards about, but very few 4GB ones that are NOT SDHC. 'Transcend' and 'Topram' were two brands that used to make them, but I'm not sure how easy they are to find now.
This used to be a hot topic and all the forums kept a list of brandnames of cards which were known to work or not, but as cards have improved it seems less of an issue. You need a reasonably "fast" card, but not "Ultra".
In general, if you decide on a 2GB card, don't just buy the cheapest, but go for a known brand like Sandisk or Kingston. I've never seen a 3GB card, but they may be about...
I can't find PGPSW's recommended list any more, but there's a list on another forum here:
Brandnames of (non)working TTG SD cards which you might still find helpful |

Thank you for your help. The latest map tom tom is suggesting requires a 2gb card so i assume I would need a 3gb card to have the map and be able to use the tom tom.
many thanks for the assistance |

I'm not sure what map you are after, but the "Western Europe v8.15" map is 1593.9 MB,
and the "Western & Central Europe 2GB v8.15" map is 1630.1 MB
Both of these will leave plenty of room on a 2GB card for the program and any extras like POIs
I just did a Google search for 3GB cards and didn't find anything except a few news reports from 2004 saying they would be coming soon! |

Hi
You can buy a 4gb non SD-HC SD card:
Transcend 4GB SD Memory Card (45x) NON-SDHC
Google it to find suppliers |
