|
|
Grahame Maxwell, the Chief Constable of North Yorkshire, has hinted in his New Year message that his patch may be about to install its first fixed speed camera.
He says "We need to continue the push to make our roads safer - we did really well in 2008 with more than a 20 per cent reduction in the number of people killed and seriously injured. Who knows, perhaps this new year will see the first safety camera installed in the force area?"
North Yorkshire is only one of two remaining forces in the UK - the other is Durham - that don't currently use fixed speed cameras. A spokeswoman for Durham Police confirmed to Pocket GPS World today that they still had no plans to introduce them. Both forces already make regular use of mobile cameras. _________________ Robert Brady |

I was led to believe y'all aren't supposed to call it force anymore. It's now "service" ;) |

As I live in North Yorkshire I've always figured I was at a bit of a disadvantage if I wanted to gain a free life membership for spotting a new speedcamera. I think though I'd sooner be at a disadvantage than have the damn money making cameras. |

North Yorks needs the cash, Mr Maxwell is looking with envy back to his roots in Cleveland, just over the border and has seen that now they have cash in the bank, its time to climb onto the bandwagon and start the legalised Highway Robbery. _________________ Sat Nav of choice WAZE

If they have some fixed cameras in Scarborough I've never found them. I still travel as if there aren't any and not picked any tickets up yet |

Operation Siren appears to be a refreshing return to old style Policing methods of dealing with specific problems, it would be nice to think that other Forces would be monitoring the outcome of this operation _________________ Sat Nav of choice WAZE

This type of sign is all over the place around here now.quite a few small villages have them. Had me slightly concerned there, fixed speed cameras, why do we need them? The only thing there's a slight problem with in North Yorks is the number of motor cyclists killed on the roads around here. There are some fast roads they like, and tend to come to this county to try out their bikes. The police do tend to sit monitoring these areas though. |

Could be the Helmsley TT. But you only have to be trundling around on a Sunday and you'll spot them anywhere around here. |
