With the 720 the LMG didn't work straight away, but after the call to TT and then emailing the receipt i got it.
The 920 worked first time, no calls, just LMG.
Both units didn't require any voucher! |
Interesting, I'm only quoting what TomTom told me in answer to a specific enquiry on refurbs recently.
Perhaps TT NA handle things differently? _________________ Darren Griffin |

Thats my understanding as well. According to TT, I spoke to them this morning, you get one one map update with all refurbs done by them. They seemed a bit confused but I surmised from what they said that once you log onto home it all works from there...but again, to give them a call if it didn't. Not sure if there is an actual physical voucher as such.
If there is an LMG then I won't argue...... _________________ TomTom 720

No that really, really is a bargain.......methinks...stunning. And assuming TT give the map update "voucher when you logon its a no brainer. In fact as I have no brain I really have ordered it this time _________________ TomTom 720

I'm also looking to order the same unit from them.... but all hinges on updating the maps for free 1st time.
Let us know if it comes with or allows you to update the maps in any way.... |

Once you update your map (if you can), the write up says you can have IQ Routes. Are you able to have Lane Guidance as well just like the 730? |

Yes it will, but MAKE SURE you update the software to v8 FIRST, otherwise you won't get offered the v8 map. |

Thanks Andy. Are the early problems of not being able to use the handsfree sorted out or are they still present? |

No idea, I'm afraid. There are so many variables involved. What problems exactly? |

Can't quite remember now, it wasn't long after the 720's came out. I think people were having problems hearing the person on the other end and a lot of buzzing and / or distortion. |

Got a 720 from TotalPda £114 and can confirm I could fully update to latest maps without voucher. Although there is a latest map guarantee code in the box.
Also got a TMC receiver for it from Amazon for £18 inc postage so quite a bargain.. |

A friend of mine just got a 720 from Radio Shack (refurb) and he was able to take advantage of the LMG.
It did originally say expired but after emailing the receipt they placed it in his account for download.
I helped him do this and one thing i did find out is, the vouchers with the code on are no longer used. If you follow the link on the voucher, the page it brings up informs you they are no longer used and please use the LMG function within Home. _________________ Go 720 v8.351 GPS v1.20 Boot 5.5120

Just ordered a 720 today from TotalPDA which they're advertising at £118.43 inc VAT with an alternative mount, or at £114.99 inc VAT with the standard mount only. Both refurbs of course. If you go through http://www.satnav-discounts.co.uk and enter the code they give, you'll get free shipping. Yay!
Now all I need to do is to fathom out this software upgrade and map upgrade...
Anyone done this successfully? Tips? |

Got my 720 today from totalPDA.
Packaged as new in Tom Tom boxes and cellophane wrapped...and the device looks the same shiny and new. Top quality from that point of view. Currently charging up but it too came with the LMG voucher but I will upgrade tonight or tomorrow if I run out of time.
So far.....not turned on of course...very impressed and a bargain price. _________________ TomTom 720

Hi Topgazza
I'd be interested to hear how you do the upgrades, in what order, and what version of the OS you use and how well it works.
Am expecting to get my 720 tomorrow.
Cheers

Connect device to PC with supplied USB cable.
Make a full back up, including hidden files to a folder you make and name appropriately, ie new out of the box date xxxx. (using explorer NOT HOME BACKUP)
No need to previously install Home as the unit will direct you to install it.
After Home is installed use help to check for Home updates, should be up to date if fresh install.
Once Home is running, should offer you an update to v8.3 application follow this. It may have to update to a v7xx first depending on how old the application is that it came with.
When you get to v8.3 installed, then and only then go to TOOLS and use LMG to get latest map.
Be warned it can take a while to load the map so don't do it expecting to go out with your new toy in 10 mins. _________________ Go 720 v8.351 GPS v1.20 Boot 5.5120
