I think we need to find out how these directional camera files work. I guess the coding is different from the POI files the PGPSW database is based upon. But I agree, it would be great if there was a way to make them directional too. |
Certainly second that one. it can be a real pain with alerts going off on junctions where the lights are on the other traffic and on the M25 with the blessed thing going off every two seconds.!! |

Don't hold your breath. Thr PGPSW database is a collection of POIs. POIs are simply a point on a map and don't have a direction associated with them. As it stands currently, there is no way that the PGPSW database can possibly be made directional on a TomTom. |

The PGPSW Speed Camera database does have directional data for those systems that support custom POI installations in a known format, I-Go being one such package offered.
Unless someone either offers the file format or works out how the TomTom database acheives the directional warnings, the Custom POI files cannot be directional - the data supports directional dwarnings, the device supports TomTom's own database with directional warnings but the format is unique to the TomTom offering. - Mike |

Apologies for the delayed response, the new version is defo missing a few Sp cams (red lights too) but if TTG can get their finger out this directional version will be a huge success.
Would it be possible for someone to give me the email Addy so i can contact them regarding this issue, thanks - Mark. |

You need to go into 'my tomtom' and then to the support page. Once you have selected your device type and the speed camera sub option you will see a list of common questions. If you scroll down there is a link to email support which takes you to a form you can fill out.
Might be worth mentioning its the same issue as mine (ref 081112-008125) so they can see people are having the exact same issue.
Please post your ref here so I can get back to them aswell. |

Drop a line to Road Angel as they supply the data to TomTom, I am sure they would be interested to hear your findings as well - Mike |

I thought Road Angel only supplied the cameras for the HD service? |

Surely there must exist some clever chap in this forum, who takes this as a challenge and decodes the TomTom speed camera files to find out the format? |

Problem is that they are encrypted for the specific device. Because of piracy etc... the encryption is likely to be very strong. |

So, you're saying that the camera files are encrypted for the specific device? I wasn't aware of this. That could make it difficult... |

Yes you can download then from the tomtom website and it sais the files are encrypted and if you open them in a editor you cannot read it.
Makes sense otherwise someone would download them and share the files with others |

OK, I'm coming at this from the point of view of someone who writes software.
Point 1. While the camera files are encrypted, Mapsettings.cfg can't be or you couldn't open it in POIEdit to extract your favourites.
Point 2. I had no problem using an old version of the file with an 8.15 map. Presumably because I don't have any favourites.
Conclusion. Favourites are stored as POIs with the data for each one in a fixed length record. The change in 8.15 to accomodate directional POIs means the data record is now a different length and therefore the old records can't be read.
This probably means that comparing the contents of a file of the old and new types with one favourite in it will show what's changed. |

The problem with comparing the files is the content will have also changed, certain cemeras have been removed, new ones added etc. Comparison of the old camera files and new ones doesn't show up any pattern or format that can be used - Mike |
