TomTom Go 510 with V7.20 maps
Just ran Home2 to backup and updated to 7.9
After this, all my favourites and recent destinations have gone. the MapSettings.cfg file in "Western_Europe" is 2k rather than 15k.
I followed the tip to copy the MapSettings.cfg from the backup to the Western_Europe directory but when I restarted TomTom, it created a new (empty) one.
I even took the SD card out and copied the MapSettings.cfg file over directly on the PC, but the same result.
Any ideas?

Yeah, download poiedit from www.poiedit.com and use it to open your mapsettings.cfg file. Save the favourites in the file using poiedit as a custom poi file. _________________ David |

Thanks, done that as a short term fix.
What a total pain in the bum!
OK, I've done that, but why am I not able to just restore MapSettings.cfg. More importanly, why did TomTom scrub it!

Normally it works but for whatever reason they changed something in the format of the file that causes this issue if you restore an earlier version.
That's TomTom for you although to be fair, copying the file was never a supported method so they can't really be blamed. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Yes, a total pain in the bum.
If you have warnings set up when near POI's like the speed cameras from this site you will also have lost those.
Many of your preference settings will have been lost.
RDS TMC no longer receives a signal in areas where it did previously.
But you will have support for version 815 maps. However some people have reported major time lag issues when using the new maps (not tried them myself yet).
If you have a backup and don't intend to upgrade your map to version 815 you may be better off restoring the previous version of the software. _________________ Paul |

Yes, I had this happen the other day and then discovered that I had incorrectly copied the mapsettings over from the Canary Islands into the W Europe map (this was the file that my 'search' command produced. )Then when I went in, there was nothing there!
However once I realised my mistake I was able to go back to my back up and copy the correct file from the W Europe folder and hey presto - all fixed. |

I'm not sure what real benefits are provided by the new software.
Unless there is something compelling I think I'll downgrade. I don't have any immediate plans to upgrade the maps as I don't have any reason to.
Thanks for all you help

Yesterday I updated my TT 910 to the latest Navcore v7.900
My TMC is now knackered
I've heard many other people reporting this, so hopefully TomTom are hard at work creating a fix _________________ 🔸🔸 Currently using TomTom GO 940 & Locus Map 🔸🔸 |
