I updated to 8.3 OS a couple of days ago. I downloaded map 815 yesterday and installed it tonight.
WELL, WHAT A B____Y CARRY ON!
I made a really stupid mistake, I tried to move my MapSettings.cfg file from my backup files to my unit.
DO NOT DO IT.
My TT would not switch on, nor would the paperclip reset work.
I thought that it is not a problem, because everyone at PGPSW has always told me to make a backup using Windows.
I tried to copy the files from my backup to the unit, but I got an error message halfway through "Destination disc full". I completely emptied everything out of the TT, tried again and the same happened again. I did a quick format (erase all) and it still happened.
I eventually got my system back by restoring an old backup in TT HOME.
I then got a big red screen on TT. "This map, WE_19 cannot be used in this device"
After more copying and faffing about with naughty words, I have now got Firmware 8.3 and map 815.
I have lost all my favourites and my home, but my own personal car icon is there.
Is there a way to copy my favourites over without killing it again? _________________ TT Go 720 (T)

What worked for me was copying over a mapsettings.cfg file from 3.1 rather than use the backup i made before installing the new map - no idea why that shoudl work but it did...

Guys if you don't mind could you start another post for other faults.
I'm trying to keep this for the voice problem so its easy to refer to and also see how many people are suffering this particular problem.
And hopefully a solution.
However at this stage i.m thinking a downgrade back to 8.01 might be the only solution. _________________ Go 720 v8.351 GPS v1.20 Boot 5.5120

I'm a moderator on two NA TomTom forums. Not one x30 user there has reported the stuttering with N8.3, only x20 users. I've gone over every message (again) in this thread and, as with the North Americans, I see NO x30 users on this forum reporting the issue.
Both the x20 and x30 processors are the same (400 mhz).
If indeed that's the case (x20 users only afflicted) so much for our (I have a 720) feeling so smug about essentially bumping our units to equivalent to x30 levels with a n8 firmware upgrade and v8 maps. _________________ David |

Does anyone have the stuttering problem with recorded voices (Tim or Jane) or is it only the computer voices? I note that most posters who identify a name says it's Kate. _________________ TT Go Essential |

In an experiment this morning, I run a 720 and a 920 side by side on a local journey.
Units were my wifes 720 (updated to Navcore 8.300 and still using map 7.10.1561), and my 920 (navcore 8.300 map 815.2003)
My wifes 720 announced everything as would be expected with Kates voice, but 920 had problems with the stutter!!
Have the tweaks in Navcore 8.3 to take advantage of maps 815 caused the problem _________________ Mick

David, its likely that the version of Loquendo TTS is the problem.
The x30 guys have version 7 and the x20 guys have version 6.9.
Is there anyway to get a hold of the new version and will it work?
On another point...I copied over the mapsetting.cfg from the 810 to the 815 map and had no problems. I had only recent addresses and maybe a favourite or 2. perhaps why I had no issues? |

Done a short trial using thg the X30 voices on my 720 and it seems to cure the stuttering - not really had chance to try it properly as I'm working at home today - will give it a proper run on monday.

Just to confirm I have the male TTS voice set on my TT520 and it stutters
I also gave it a factory reset and I see the default is not to annouce street names
Mind you my one even had trouble saying roundabout so as suggested earlier the TTS engine version may well be the issue....
Perhaps TT have to pay a licence fee to its writers for a newer version and perhaps that is why we have an older release?

I think DinAlt is on to something here. I have just replaced the "Loquendo TTS" folder on my 520 with one from a 530.
The free RAM has gone up from 7MB to 19MB. It works perfectly in DEMO mode. Will give it a try this evening and report back. |

You will either have an x30 or x40 device or possibly know someone with such a device, as always when messing around swapping files and folders from different devices you should have a full Windows Explorer backup before embarking on such an option, otherwise if it goes wrong you might find you have a a rather costly door stopper - Mike |

About 30 minutes ago in one of the NA forums, saw my first poster with N8.3, NA maps 8.10 AND a x30 (930 to be precise) report stuttering! _________________ David |

Keeping the fingers well crossed so far, but I have upgraded my 720 to 8.3 and 8.15 maps - admittedly, I have not made a long journey as yet, but have had none of the stuttering so far using the computer voice. I also copied my mapsettings.cfg file over to the Western Europe folder and have all my favourites etc working, again with no problems to date.
The only POI files I have set to display are the PGPSW cameras |

I will try the TTS 7 voices on mine and see how it goes, once I find a set .....
Has anyone else noticed that even though I haven't recorded my own custom voice I have the option to disable the recorded voice?? This was not there before the upgrade to 8.3 |
