anyone out there
i need help with the in car navigation system i live in south africa and there was no satnav available when my car was purchased .
this year porsche has launched the south african software but the hardware in the new car has been changed is there anyway i can get south african maps for my car or which other car manufacturers software might work ..

It would help if we knew who the mapping provider was that supplied the map data for your current system. The major players are Navtech (now Navteq) and TeleAtlas.
Looking at Navteq's website they make no mention of map data for S.Africa. _________________ Darren Griffin |

sorry for the lack of info given initialy
the cd says navtech on board .
mercedes bmw and vw all have launched in car navigation in south africa
the bmw and mercedes cds say navtech as well i have tried to use them but they did not work .
i think they use different hardware in they cars
i think the unit in the porsche is a siemens unit .

All I can suggest then is contacting Navteq, webiste address is www.navteq.com. Tell them what system you have and enquire if SA maps are available for it. Alternatively contact Siemens.
Because there are so many variations of hardware manufacturer, Navteq don't always have updates available, olders systems used CD whereas newer ones use DVD for map data. If yours uses CD it is possible that the SA update has only been made available on DVD but it's worth enquiring although the map disks are not cheap _________________ Darren Griffin |
