If this has happened to anybody else, please link me to the thread please.
Twice now my TT720 has switched it's self ON without being pluged in to a usb connection or any other power. Just sitting there in it's cradle waiting to be connected to a usb port. All of a sudden, on it comes . It might have been sitting there for day's or weeks!!! Any ideas please.
Regards David |

David, Which software version are you currently using on the device, you can find this by tapping the sat strength meter in the lower right corner of the screen - Mike |

Try clicking 'clear route' before switching it off. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Clearing route doesn't always work...
Problem in my case has only been solved by doing a pin reset - had to do it twice on the last occasion.
This never happened before the upgrade to 8.010 and has happened with the 7.20 and 8.10 maps.
I initially thought I had brushed the on switch when putting it down, but that was not the case; it did the same sitting on my desk! |

I did observe this issue on earlier releases but haven't observed it on my 720 since updating to the v8 release. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Thanks for the replies. Perhaps a roll back to version 7 and then reinstall version 8 will do the trick? If it does switch on if I am not there, after a certain time, it will switch off as it usually does after no input.

My 520 (running 8.010) switched itself on a couple of weeks ago when I was driving to work, I suddenly heard a disembodied voice coming from the armrest giving me directions & warning me about speed cameras - very disconcerting. It was in it's case in the car & hadn't been used for a few days and, on inspection turned out to be almost fully charged so hadn't been on for long!! |

This reminds me of my fridge - I'm sure the light never goes off because every time I open the door to check, the light's on!!
Seriously, though. This self switch on has been happening to my GO920T for ages, releases 7 and 8, no different. I'm resigned to putting up with it, because I think I've tried all the tricks - Clear route, pin reset, ClearFlash.exe. BUT it doesn't affect my GO720. Maybe it's another Traffic bug? Anyway, I've stopped taking my 920 in my shirt pocket when I'm out of the van - greasy spoon queues, toilets, delivery bays, reception, you name it, my 920T has told them all to turn around when possible, or some other nav instruction, or failing that has started to give me a warm feeling close to my heart! Customers usually find it amusing, but like old jokes, it's wearing a bit thin with me! _________________ Dennis

So... keep the Go in the fridge!
Then when it switches on by itself, the light sensor will react to the fridge light and turn the screen brightness down and you'll get better battery life before it dies.
Sorted... |

having the same problem on my go 530 thugs tomtom said to try,
Thank you for contacting TomTom Customer Support
We believe the issue with your device to be relating to your software installation, we therefore ask you to follow the steps below:
1- On your TomTom, reset the device to factory settings and also reset the battery.
To perform a Factory Reset and a battery reset please do the following:
• Switch on the unit
• Go to 'Change Preferences' (ensure all menu options are visible)
• Go to the last screen and select 'Reset Factory Settings'
• Select 'Yes'
• A language select screen will load up, when this happens, use a small pin or paperclip to soft reset the unit.
You can view step by step reset instructions here: http://www.tomtom.com/6965
• Then go through the setup procedure again if it asks you
• See if the problem continues.
2- If that does not resolve your issue, follow these instructions:
• On your computer open Start/My Computer
• Connect the device to your computer and turn it on.
• You will see a disk drive appear called 'internal'
• Right click on the disk drive and select 'properties'
• From the properties box, click on the tab called 'tools'
• Select 'Error Checking'
• Make sure both options are ticked and press 'start'
• Disconnect your TomTom and let it load up.
• See if the problem continues.
3- If the issue still remains, please follow these steps:
• Connect your TomTom to the computer and switch it on.
• Download the attached Clear Flash tool file and save it to your desktop
• Right click on the 'Clear Flash - All.zip' file and extract the files.
• A new folder will appear called 'Clear Flash - All', double click into it
• Click on the 'Clear Flash - All.exe' file.
• Proceed with installing the clear flash tool.
• Once completed, switch your TomTom off, then disconnect it from the PC.
• Switch your TomTom back on.
You should no longer have the issues that you are experiencing with your TomTom |
