|
|
Can anyone advise on this problem please?
I have my Go 520 in a Brodit active mount and want to use a stereo cable from the line-out socket on the TomTom to the aux input on my car stereo.
It all works OK but I get some distracting interference when the Brodit is also plugged into the car's power socket. |

What you need is a ground loop issolator which plugs in between the TomTom and the car audio input, Maplins and Halfords sell these for around 8 quid, although it uses RCA audio sockets so don't forget to grab some RCA to 3.5MM jack plug leads while you are at the store - Mike |

If I run the setup without the power plugged in there is no interference at all. It's only when I plug in the power lead from the Brodit that it starts. |

This is a well known problem with some cars and is caused when the electical connection is made between two powered devices, in this case the audio lead causes current to flow between the two devices which in turn creates the interference. The ground loop issolator allows the audio signal through but blocks the DC component thus preventing the interference - Mike |

I get an alternator-style noise if I use the AUX in ... would this cure it?

Received today. Just tried it and it works fine. Thanks Mike.
Only problem now is the weak output of the GO. I need to have the car stereo volume up very high and remember to turn it down before switching to the radio or CD player. |

Are you still on v7 software?
In v7, the overall volume control affects both the navigation voice and the mp3 player.
In v8, the mp3 player volume is fixed at 100% irrespective of the normal volume control setting - that's certainly the case for the FM and Bluetooth output and I think it is so for the line out too. |

I am using v8 software. I've just checked and the mp3 player was showing 80% volume. I've changed it to 100% and will try that next time. |
