|
|
Hi all,
OK, I'm at breaking point now :x I just cant get my Ipaq 5550 to run traffic updates via GPRS.
I had a Nokia with no bluetooth, so I have got a Sony Ericson t610 that will browse the net via GPRS on its own via O2 PAYG but as soon as I tell the iPAQ to connect, I get the message on the phone "GPRS accsess point not valid" and the only way to get the phone back online is to re install the WAP settings.
I have setup the iPAQ and phone as described here but to no avail.
I realy could do with some help please.
TIA |

There's a difference between WAP over GPRS (which is what the phone's WAP browser uses) and full GPRS Internet access. I'm not sure the latter, which is required for TomTom Traffic, is possible on O2 pre-pay.
It would help if you gave more details of your settings - but I fear the issue is that you don't have access to the Internet APN on O2.

David,
I can test that quite easily, my partner is on O2 contract so I will try her sim card
In the mean time, what settings are you after and I will post them for you to look over.
Thanks
Mason. |

02 PAYG does not support full GPRS internet access. 02 contract does, but I am having problems with 02 contract and TT traffic with incomplete data.
Orange PAYG supports full GPRS internet access at £4/MB
T-Mobile PAYG supports full GPRS internet access at £20/MB
Until the 02 contract issue is resolved I am using the orange PAYG with my IPAQ5550. |

Yes you get a GPRS access point error when you use the wrong Access Point Node for your network.
The O2 contract APN for GPRS mobile Internet is "mobile.02.co.uk" and the PAYG APN for WAP GPRS is "payandgo.02.co.uk"
If you use the additional modem string command on your iPAQ +CDGCONT=1,"IP","APN", where APN is the APN for your network, this will overwrite the first CID on the Ericsson T610. On the Ericsson T610 you use a different dialling number rather than the additional modem string to select which of your data accounts you want to use. The dialling number on an Ericsson is *99***CID# where CID is the CID of the data account you wish to use. On the Ericsson *99# dials the default CID=1.
On a Nokia you need the +CDG... string to select anything other than the default account and it does not overwrite. Dialling *99***CID# does not work on a Nokia. Again *99# on the Nokia without the additional string dials Active Access Point 1. |

Shop around, the an Orange SIM pack ranges from £9.99 to £29.99 (CarphoneWarehouse Website) for a blank SIM with £1 of credit. You may be lucky and find you get a free month of data or 12MB whichever is the smaller. Just try all you local retailers. |

There's a typo here. It's +CGDCONT
*99***CID# does work on a Nokia - it's just that on most if not all Nokias there's only one Context ID, which, according to the 3GPP/GSM specifications is quite legitimate so long as it has the number 1.

What I find odd is that the Nokia 6310i can have up to six GPRS APNs programmed in, but only one context ID. |

I know - it's the way Nokia designed it. There's no real reason for it to be this way, as the 3GPP/GSM specifications, to my reading, say that it's permissible to allow multiple context IDs to be set up, but only one GPRS context to be active at once.
