Hi all, for the past few months and for no specific reason I can think of, I don't receive the 'quickgpsfix' updates anymore. I know these aren't strictly 'needed' but I wondered if others were still getting them and if so, is there anything I could do to force my OneXL to get them. I used to get them every week until a couple of months ago. |

I still get mine. Do you subscribe to any other TT services that require updates? If so do you get them? Are you sure that when you connect TT to your PC and have Home running that when you then select Update my GO it logs on to the TT website correctly? It think it will only do this if the TT you have connected is the one you have registered at TT HQ against your email address. |

I don't subscribe to anything else but do receive mapshare updates regularly, I only have one Tomtom and one set of login details. |

Use Explorer to go here on your computer:
C:\Documents and Settings\yourname\My Documents\TomTom\HOME\Downloads\ephemeris
and delete the contents of that folder. Now, try an update. _________________ David |

Well, you can try this: first make sure you have a complete unit backup using Explorer and make sure hidden files/folders are showing as are extensions for known file types.
Now, use Explorer and navigate to the ephem folder ON YOUR UNIT. Delete anthing there. Now, try the update. _________________ David |

It is quite simple don't bother with them, they serve no benefit if you use the device on a regular basis, say once every three days for at least 30 minutes on each occasion. I have long since given up with this download as I find it offers no additional assistance - Mike |

I think that you will find that the ephemeris data broadcast by the GPS sattellites is only valid for 4 hours, and after that, the receiver must perform a cold start unless it has the artificial ephemeris data.
I certainly notice a difference, if the 730 has not been updated with the quickfix data (even if it was on for several hour the previous day), it can take 1 to 5 minutes to get a fix. _________________ Tomtom Go 1005

I haven't downloaded it since February onto any of several devices - no problems with signals. _________________ Dennis

No problems here. Get offered a new quickgpsfix file every 2 to 4 days via home. Used to get them every other day but in recent weeks the availability of the fix has slowed to a couple of times a week for me. _________________ Tomtom GO 1005 LIVE

Well, I must be lucky because although having never used Quickfix I have no problem getting the device up and away. In fact I am often amazed just how quickly it does get a lock. I usually get in the Transit, turn the device on, connect the device to the cigarette lighter, fix it to the window screen and bingo, its got the satellite bars up and running.
Way back when I first used a PDA with TT3 and one of the earlier Satellite receivers I sometimes nearly reached my destination before I got a fix.
However, unlike you Tomtom Home does give me the option (I have just checked) to use the Quickfix should I wish to _________________ Tomtom Go 720.

I'm tempted to believe that I get faster lock times WITHOUT GPSQuickFix downloads.
Also, the strange effect a few of us got where the cursor followed a route correctly but about 50yards off track, only used to happen soon after a QuickFix. |

Just an update, Tomtom asked me to delete both ephem folders, the one in the device and the one in my documents/etc. This didn't help. They then asked me to delete the downloads folder. This didn't help. I haven't heard back from them for a week.
I made a new ephem folder, put it in the Tomtom, and took the contents from the ephem folder from an early backup and copied it across.
Next time I connected, it offered me the new quickfix data. Success.
Even though it seems most people don't use it, my original OneXL does seem to get a lock faster when I have the updated data, it was the fact that it took me longer to get a fix that prompted my question on quickfix on here and to Tomtom, now I get that data, my lock time seems to have improved. |
