Recently purchased the 314 and am interested in the FB055AT TMC Traffic car charger cable.
Has anyone here used it? Is it worth the £40??
Thanks in advance! |

Wow - have you got the GPS unit to actually recognise the TMC addon - most other people who have posted on the device (on other forums) claims they cant get it to work..asks for subscription number...
Look forward to your feedback.
Thanks! |

Hi Harry66,
Ok, After many frustrating Hours researching on the Web and contacting the useless HP Live Chat.... I appear to worked out how the TMC Functionality works on this unit (UK).
1) Upgrade to the Lastest version SP39113.exe for FA976AA (1.8GB)
2) Insert TMC Adapter into the Ipaq 314 (ensure that the unit is drawing Power from the ciggee lighter
3)Open up Navigation extras and open the Traffic Icon
4) Run auto check for a while and check the freq ensure you watch this as it has a signal bar on the left hand side..
5) Turn off Auto Check and enter the strongest signal from the autocheck. Mine was a local radio station but another good signal was ClassicFM.
6)Wait a few moments and viola you have free to air TMC/RDS found.
Personally, I think it's a bug in the software for auto tuning, as quite clearly the signal is there but it fails to find the TMC aspect of the Radio station.
With regard to Clear Channel and the TMC Activation... I have logged a Ticket with HP and it's been escalated to 2nd Line support, as soon as i hear anything, i'll pass it but onto the forum.
It's a real shame...HP have a good product here, but it's let down on the documentation and support staff and the Content manager software (that sucks).

Fantastic that you've got the TMC working! As harry66 says, you may be the first and only person in the UK to have managed it.
Is it straightforward to "enter the strongest signal from the autocheck" once you've turned the autocheck off?
Am based in France, and thinking of getting the TMC to use here. Hence very interested by your findings. |

Are you saying you can ACTUALLY get traffic information, or is your 314 just telling you that the radio stations are transmitting the RDS TMC signal? |

Hi,
If you turn off Automatic scanning it will lock onto a channel but sadly no TMC Traffic Info announcements.
If have received some information back from HP regarding the TMC and thought i would share with forum members.
TMC Adapters for the Ipaq 314 for UK are not supported. Crazy as it may sound they are refunding on that basis.
I asked when they plan to offer this service in the UK... They had no timescale.. Shame as it's a excellent unit.
So anybody thinking about buying the Ipaq 314 for TMC in the UK Market, think again.

I recently received a 15% and free delivery voucher from HP so decided to risk ordering the TMC cable.
When I connected it I was able to access the TCM option under Nav Extras so I thought Woo Hoo - it works! It didnt ask for any subscription number etc!
But it does not list any incidents even at 9am in the morning travelling into London and with the 'List all Events' option selected.
I will give a few more tries but I guess I will have get a refund!!
Yogi-Bear - who confirmed it does not work in the UK - was is Support or the Sales team?
Thanks! |

Hi,
Extract from an E-mail i got from HP.
"I have been advised by a senior technician that this product cannot work with this machine in the UK and therefore the only resolution is for us to offer you a full refund of the TMC Kit."

Ipaq 314 went back last week
TMC Adapter going back in a few days.
I'm never buying HP again... regardless of type of hardware - support sucks big time, i've had one e-mail in the last 4 four weeks disgusting. No trouble shooting at all. even escalating to the highest level didn't get me very far. Nobody wanted to know.
Even obtaining a DOA was troublesome..
bad bad experience..... it's a real shame HP have a winner of a product.

So how come you sent the iPAQ 314 back?
I also could not get the TMC to work (spent nearly 3 hours on online chat with HP) and they have offered me a refund on it - they have not asked for it back - so I guess I get a spare car charger for all my hassles. |

Dunno, They gave me Two DOA's one for the TMC Adapter and the other for the Ipaq 314.
It's funny as the place from the ipaq unit came from, just received an e-mail from them they have sent another unit too me..

If it doesn't work it's not a winner!
Try try the HP RX5935 with iGo software, fast, accurate and can run any other software you want.

Hi,
The HP unit would have been a winner if they resolved the basic problems with the unit i.e TMC Pro to work in the UK, currently they no plans to make it work of which amazes me as they still sell the TMC adapter for the unit in the UK...
The screen res was absolutely brilliant... but as you say if it dont work...it ain't a winner.

I originally bought 2 iPAQ 314 units and one TMC Receiver.
One 314 was returned for a refund unopened.
I tested the other one for a few weeks before eBaying it.
The TMC receiver was eBayed to someone in Europe who could actually make use of it...
Still, I got two £30 cheques from HP, so a small profit made overall! |
