|

I'm hoping someone could please give a final say on whether this unit is or isn't SDIO compliant. I am desperate to buy a wifi card but really cannot afford to take the chance!. Medion do not seem to be much help with this.
I am aware the ppc200 was SDIO but nobody has yet been able to confirm if the 250 is.
Hope someone can help before I go ahead and skint myself for nothing!.
Cheers.

Hi, my scandisk SDIO wifi arrived on Saturday morning from the states. Plugged it in, changed the SSID and trusted pc
MAC address and within 5 minutes was surfing the net, also listening to streaming radio from shoutcast. So I suppose the answer is yes, it is SDIO
complient although it doesn't ,mention that anywhere in the box or literature. But believe me it works .... This relates to the MDPPC250
sold by Aldi.. |

Swiss Tony says.....

"you need to use as little energy as possible, find a nice cheap one and find a hotspot with as little fuss as possible".
Sorry couldnt resist

Is this card the Sandisk SDWSDB-000-768?
If it is, then ebuyer.co.uk are selling it now for £66 including VAT and I might actually consider buying one if I know that it works. |

Perhaps you might want to wait a few weeks for this new version which includes 256MB of memory as well:

Yep, and within 6 months you'll have a sdio card that has 512 meg of memory, makes you a cup of tea and makes love to your wife while you're clandestinely having a few beers with your mates. Also guides her home using the inbuilt GPS sytem and washes her knickers toboot.
Sure, the longer you wait the more you get, this part of the forum started
wondering if the ALDA MDPPC250 was SDIO complient, well it is.
We can all all ask for more..... father Xmas is always around.
But, to cut a very long story short Aldi are offering something for less than 300 pounds that for one, I'm very happy with and I presume now that we all know its SDIO complient, a lot of not so sure SDIO' ers are as well..... |

pleased that it worked well 4 u.
2 points to watch though.
1. Top left Back of PDA gets very warm(hot) when using SDIO card.
2. Seems to be quite power hungry, only got 1/2 a hour the other day before low battery warning appeared. Battery showed 29%. Unplugged
the SDIO and went up to 100%. So definately uses substantial battery resource. Not really a great problem though have to keep surfing to a miniumum. The heat issue worries me a little bit though. |

yeah m8 noticed mine was warm today also.
I guess when you got so much packed into a small space though its bound to get warm. Its not so hot that it worries me tbh.
Went wardriving with it hooked up to the GPS in the car .... soooo many networks with no WEP its unbelievable!.
Especially in the town centre and housing estates. Some people really dont have a clue on wireless security its a pity
Cheers

I have a couple of questions:
1) Does this Wi-Fi card support Ad Hoc wireless networking? My home wireless network does not use a gateway or access point.
2) Is there an adaptor that allows more than one SD card to be inserted at the same time? If I was using an SD Wi-Fi card I would also want to use my existing memory cards. |

no adaptor for the Medion unit that I know of that will allow you to plug in more than 1 card at a time. Unless you wait and get a WiFi with 256mb built in memory as per a few posts up.
Not sure what you mean by adhoc wireless networking m8 how do you access a wireless network without an access point or gateway?
The card will connect to any access point gateway or router if thats any help, could you elaborate a little more please on what you mean?
Cheers

If you select the Ad Hoc (also called peer-to-peer) mode on a wireless network card, it means that the card will connect to any other computer in range that is set to the same SSID (provided that the WEP keys match). This means an access point is not required.
The cards in my desktop and laptop support this, but I don't know if all cards support it. |
