I still think it's a death-ray
Or maybe some form of electronic signage (to display speed / plate) ?
It's too big to be an illuminator and facing the wrong way. |

The object on the first pole looks like an LED screen or maybe an LED-based IR illuminator? |

goodstone is right about the "old cine camera"
I passed the setup again the other day, and at that time it consisted of:
1st pole - square IR illuminator facing oncoming cars
2nd pole - Main camera lump also facing oncoming cars
3rd pole grey "cine camera" pointing in direction of traffic to catch rear of car as it passes.
It looks like something they would make on Blue Peter out of a shoe box and a toilet roll inner, sprayed grey. |

Has anybody thought about actually asking the local council/scp what it is.

dont think there will be alot of these looking at design.
Someone could wreck in a matter of minutes. not the main camera but the add ons to the other poles. i presume that all parts need to be working in order to prosecute. but according to previous page this camera is not enforcing at mo. On test awaiting home office approval. but i wouldnt like to find out.

As these cams are not yet type aproved, they are therefore not speed enforcement (sorry, safety) cameras, so why is one called GATSO:53211 in our database? Or is there a 'real' gatso in attendance? |

Possibly because they will continue to be reported and we are unlikely to know if/when they will be Type approved and become active? _________________ Darren Griffin |

Quick update ... drove past this again over the weekend.
The device (IR illuminator?) on the front post has been removed and replaced with a carrier bag covering the top of the post.
The main unit is now forward facing, and appears to have 2 cameras installed. Looks nasty.
While driving past at < 40mph I was undertaken by some lane hopping in an Astra who must have been going at 55-60. Is it live yet? Here's hoping... |
