I was about to purchase a TT 930 from amazon.co.uk, when I noticed a review from a previous customer. I quote:

"Had the unit a few hours, carried out a backup and copied all files to my computer.
Did an update many changes needed. All downloaded.
Another backup done.
Then found out 6 digit post codes did not work.
Download a file from Tomtom for this to work.
Another backup done.
Then checked with TomTom website to see if the maps were upto date, they were not.
Europe maps 2Gb
Usa maps 2Gb
With all the control software and the updated maps it will not fit on this brand new machine.
This machine as 4Gb of internal memory but needs over 4.5 gb to work with Europe and us maps , so a new machine is useless from day 1. I will now need to buy a large Sd card to keep one of the maps on it.
It also takes about 4 hrs to down load each map.
Anyone who is not a computer expert should avoid this machine. Why can it not work out of the box with the correct operating system and correct maps?"

Is this what is to be expected from a 930? Is it true that the memory isn't large enough for all the updates?

It is true that with the latest maps and all the ASR (Advanced Speech Recognition) files in place they won't fit into the built in flash memory. You can opt for a larger SD card or (as I have done) remove the American map from the device until it is needed. It doesn't take too long to swap maps using this method - Mike

Any possible issue with postcodes not working (mentioned above) become simple to fix *IF* you always make a full backup with Windows Explorer before you do ANY updating or messing about. See the FAQs in this forum section for "How to's".
