|
|
Apologies if this has been covered but i have done a search first and come up lacking.
On my 720 if i have disabled voice and i am driving around, having planned a route, there is the function that if you need confirmation , by voice, of the last announcement (even tho you have disabled voice) you can press the distance area and the voice will tell you the last announcement.
Weird thing is what should be distances said in "miles" change to "yards" which can be abit odd at times.
Any cure or is this a known bug?
Thanks |

If it's not a silly question...How many yards?
My 720 always uses yards upto about 800, only beyond that does it talk about miles.
But there isn't much that it says that needs to use miles, most instructions will be closer then that. Occasionally it will say "continue straight on motorway for 16 miles"
Is yours saying something like "continue straight on motorway for 28,160 yards"?!? |

Nope- on the 720 it would clearly show a right turn in 3.5 MILES, but when you tap the distance section old computer woman says " In 3.5 YARDS turn right"! which can make you double look a few times! |

Which "voice" have you got set? (it would make it easier for someone else to try on their unit). Using Jane on my XL, it it's more than a few hundred yards away, I just get "Right turn ahead" etc if I press the direction bit earlier than spoken warnings were expected to be made. _________________ Gerry

It's Kate, this has been happened all the time through various versions of home and unit software up to and including present.
I usually have the voice off as most of my work journeys i know and can then listen to mp3 function or radio uninterupted (apart from speed camera alerts)
The problem occurs when say there are a few junctions close together coming up a few of miles away i tap the distance display to just get a confirmation. She always says yards when it is actually miles ie 9.4 yards which is funny when it catches me out and i have a quick panic.
Voice always gives correct verbal confirmation when voice is enabled.
Minor quirk.. but is it just me? |

Well... I think you've found a real good bug!
It's repeatable and can be demonstrated even on a demo route....
1. Set the TT to use a computer voice.
2. Go to "A-B prepare route" and using "point on map" to set the start and end points, enter a route going north up the M1. Go from Junction 5 (Just to avoid lots of Specs camera warnings!) to anywhere a fair way up, say Junction 15. (zoom in close enough to make sure you start on the northbound carriageway).
3.Tap "Details" and "Show route Demo". Set the speed to 200% and tap "Done".
4. Tap the direction arrow/distance box in the bottom left corner (as many times as you like) to get the last instruction -
"After x miles keep right, M1 towards the north".
5. Now tap the screen, say "No" when it asks if you want to stop the demo, and go through Change preferences / Voice preferences/Disable voice. (NOT 'turn off sound') Tap 'Done' to go back to the demo.
6. Now whenever you tap the direction/distance box you get a repeat of the last instruction again, but now it always says -
"After x yards keep right, M1 towards the north"!!!
You can repeat the above to turn the voice on and off and it is always the same.
Do you want the "pleasure" of reporting it to TomTom, or shall I? (I quite enjoy telling them things like this! ) |

Go for it, I have given up with TT support (more like YTS support sometimes) over other issues in the past so by all means drop this one on them. I am surprised it has not been picked up before by others who use the 720 every day but am glad it's not just me or paranoia might set in. Thanks for the test and look forward to reading feedback from TT |

OK, but before I do, can someone with v8 software and maps confirm it still happens on that? |
