If you want your satnav to work with an Autocom or Starcom then do not buy a tomtom. Even though it's meant for bikes and Autocomm/Starcom are the biggest suppliers of bike comms, TomTom recon that thier products are not supposed to work with them. Installing the latest software onto a tomtom will stop most mobile phones working via Bluetooth. Here is the reply from Tomom - personally I think their attitude stinks!!
They also state that the unit will not work with third party headsets!! does this mean car headsets?
Dear Mr Trenery,
Thank you for contacting TomTom Customer Support
I have spoken with second line and unfortunately the Rider is not supposed to work with an Autocom intercom or headset. Unfortunately we do not support any kind of 3rd party intercoms or headsets. The fact that the Autocom headset worked with the last application comes down to good luck. I am sorry but we are not able to send you the application attachments due to a virus threat. You can, however check in Items On My PC in TomTom HOME if you still have the old application and reinstall.
With Best Regards
David M.

Did they ever claim support? No. Works for me. Whilst Autocom may well be popular amongst bikers it does not make the Rider a poor choice for the many bikers who want Satnav and don't have an Autocom system.
I can understand your frustration but lets keep it in perspective. _________________ Darren Griffin |

What they are basically saying is that it will only work with a Scala headset - just seems like a rubbish response to me. |

I do have a Rider1 upgraded to V7.540 with BT connection to my SE w810i phone and Autocom Active Rider using Autocom 1273 Bluetooth Adaptor.
Workes brilliant on this as well as on earlier versions of TomTom firmware. Navigation sound and phone is loud and clear. People on the phone are suprised that I'm actually riding my bike as the sound is so good.
I had to perform new pairing of BT connection after upgrade because I had restored factory settings and lost all settings in advance. Don't know if I had to if not.
Be careful to follow the instructions on the Autocom BT dongle to get successful pairing. I had some attempts before I got it right.
I do not think TomTom support know very much about third party products. I'll guess their default answer is that it is not supported. At least they do not commit to anything then. If you don't know the answer is no. |

Well, TomTom have just released a new version of the software for the Rider V2 - Version 7.901 - But unfortunately it does not fix the phone issue when connected to an Autocom.
Autocom say it's TomTom's fault and TomTom say its Autocoms fault - Great! - So that was £800 well spent - NOT.
Would it be that much trouble for TomTom to actually fix one of the problems they caused with a software update - considering Autocom is one of the most popular bike nav setups. - In my view - TomTom are alienating the market that the Rider was designed for.
So, Lets try a Zumo.

Have you tried the "fix" for BT problems HERE? (second post down, not the later one).
It was meant for BT audio devices, and I'm not sure whether that will be relevant for Rider headsets, but it's certainly worth a try, I'd have thought. |

Thanks for the link but unfortunately it doesn't help. My Autocom pairs with TT Rider just fine and my phone pairs with the TT just fine. I can hear nav instructions through my headset so I know the pairing with the Autocom and TT are working. The TT can initiate a call on the mobile and also access the phone book, so I know that phone and TT pairing work.
The problem is that one a call has been established I cant hear any voice and the caller cant hear me. If I load the old version of TT software it all works fine (but the POI's don't so I just want the latest version of software to actually work)
Thanks anyway

OK, so after my first post a couple of years ago about the TomTom/Autocom problem I find myself with a resolve. Autocom have released a new Nluetooth dongle which still doesn't work with the TomTom Rider V2 problem.
So, I got myself a Sena SMH10 and ditched the Autocom. This bit of kit is brilliant. Excellent sounding music from bluetooth enabled ipod, Tomtom Rider paired no problems at all and the mobile connected to the TomTom is also working fine. The SMH10 also has BT intercom for 4 riders and switches all of the inputs automatically.
After so many issues connected the TT2 to the autocom and rewiring the whole think on my bike I must say this is a huge relief.
The unit is completely wireless (unless you need to charge it, which you can even when using it) and thanks to the latest version of Bluetooth the sound quality is as good as a wired solution.
Thanks you to the guys at Bikers Barn for sorting this out for me. |
