Please forgive what may appear to be a stupid question
I have a Go 720. I downloaded v8 Navcore a couple of weeks back and all worked fine. Today I purchased the v8 W Europe maps and downloaded these. The system info suggests all is well and that everything is v8 derived.
I have the Lane Assist option activated via the preferences menu. OK so far.
However I thought I saw somewhere that you have to activate the IQ routing feature manually (at least for the first time) but when I enter a route it just calculates in the same way as it used to i.e there is no mention of IQ routes.
I have checked the online manual but no mention of enabling IQ so I guess my question is 'How do I know the IQ routing feature is working?'
Is it just there or do I have to do something first? |

As the GPS knows the date it can workout the day and therefore this is transparant to a users, when it has planned a route it displays a summary of the route at the bottom of which it will state IQ routes and the day option it used. Or you can try AtoB or Advanced Planning to set a departure point and destination, the device will then ask you which day (weekday or weekend) you intend to make the trip - Mike |

If you have the unit set to Quickest route then you will be using IQ Routing. If you use anything other than Quickest then you'll see a message saying "IQ Routing disabled" or something similar. _________________ Tim |

Excellent, many thanks. Tried both suggestions i.e. 'plan A - B' and 'shortest' route and both indicated IQ options or disabled.
Off to London in the morning - we shall see!
Thanks again |

IQ planning is automatically enabled as you know. You will probably also have noticed that it can be manually enabled/disabled through Planning Preferences and selecting the IQ Routes tab. Though I can't see the point of switching it 'off', as it is so far coming up trumps in appropriate routing every time for me. |

Does IQ Routes take 'time of day' into account as well as 'day of week'? |

Honest I don't work for them! Maybe I just don't notice the roads I'm on when I'm wearing these rose tinted specs |

All you guys have answered everything I need to know about IQ routing except one thing, if you choose the quickest route when the route summary is displayed does it actually tell you its using a IQ route show the difference in miles and time from the normal route and does it give you an option not to use IQ route? |

It tells you it's using IQ Routes, but doesn't show any differences.
You can select "Find Alternative", as usual, which then shows time and mileage for the original route as well as the alternative. _________________ Anita

Thanks Anita, so if you select find alternative, I guess it goes without question that the original route is the IQ route but if you then choose quickest/fastest as your choice again can that be the fastest non IQ route or just an alternative IQ route and therfore to find out what the non IQ route is should you then select Limited speed presumable set to 70mph? |

You only get IQ routing if you select Fastest route, and there can only be one IQ route.
I've just planned a short route using Fastest, and it shows "0:13 hrs - 5.7M, Fastest route - IQ Routes (Weekday)".
If I ask it to calculate alternative I get the usual "What type of route should be planned" screen with Fastest, Shortest etc. If I select Fastest route it calculates a different route and shows "0:23 hrs - 6.5M, (original 0:13 hrs - 5.7M)". Obviously the new route is not an IQ route. _________________ Anita
