There were the Garmin Cyclops POI files as well as 2 from POI loader. One was 0kb the other was normal size from pocketgpsworld speed camera download. How I had two, who knows. Shouldn't the 0kb one have been overwritten when I did a fresh POI load? _________________ Nick Russell

I spoke too soon!
I got unit back and indeed all working OK. I tried a new speed camera download and loaded using POILoader 252 - back to grey blobs again. very strange. I can see icons correctly for non camera POIs. To test I deleted camera POI.gpi and copied an old one I had backed up a few months ago - still grey blobs so it doesn't seem to be a POILoader problem.
The only change that I haven't tried to roll back is my maps. I updated my maps to 2008 and this seemed to be when problems started but why should this be?
The good people at Garmin were able to add camera POIs to my unit with no problems.
Today I installed POILoader to a different PC in case this was causing problems but I still got grey blobs.
I came across a suggestion that grey blob can be caused by a mismatch between name of bmp file and csv file. Any thoughts on this?
Is there an editor for Garmin gpi files so I can check? _________________ Nick Russell

There has been another thread running with problems with the database.
Can you tell me, where are you loading the POIs to? Internal Memory or SD Card? If using the SD Card can you use POILoader to send them directly to the Internal memory via USB cable (don't just copy them from the SD Card to the Memory) and see if that works.

If the BMP doesn't have the exact same name as the POI file then it'll not be able to find it. ie. you must have GATSO.BMP and GATSO.CSV not GATSO.BMP and GATSO_CAMS.CSV etc |

I'm loading to internal memory as I've always done. The problem only started about a month ago, or at least that's when I noticed it but I don't update my speed camera POI every month.
Garmin's Cyclops speed cameras show up correctly when I activate alerts and your other POIs show up with correct icons _________________ Nick Russell

Finally sorted this.
The problem was with my non-camera POIs. When Garmin had the unit, they removed all POIs, added camera POIs then put back other POIs and all was OK.
When I got my unit back I just uploaded new camera POIs and got grey blobs back. I had an idea it might be the non-camera POIs as these were done about a year ago. I downloaded a new file and installed this, renamed it and then installed camera POIs - all worked OK.
So for whatever reason my old non-camera POIs were causing the problem. If may have been that they were created using an old POILoader, or old unit SW, or maybe because they were just being difficult Who knows but I very happy all is working!
With last camera POI installed I added voice mp3 prompts - these work very well. _________________ Nick Russell
