Hi Calomax
I agree with everything that you say. I keep the switch pressed for about 5 seconds and I am up and running shortly after. It has never bothered me and like you I feel that it is a safety thingy to stop the device from switching on accidentally.
I know that my two hour journey will take me 5 seconds longer than the instantaneous switch, but what the hell, whats five seconds. _________________ Tomtom Go 720.

I posted in the "TomTom 520 Possible Turn On Problem" thread:
Quote: | My 720 doesn't take that long. A 2 second hold and it springs to life about 2 seconds later. |
The trouble is people having no problems tend not to post for fear of upsetting those who are (especially whitevanmen who bear grudges against lucky "girlies"! )
It does sometimes result in the "Well bully for you. Now go away and play with your working device and leave those of us who are having trouble to moan about it in peace" response. _________________ Anita

I have never had this power on problem on my 520, it's like some mobile phones, it's the 'letting go' of the button that powers on, so if you keep it pressed nothing will happen, it's the same on my mwg atom life. |
Sorry, but it sounds to me as though you've never tried running App 7.481 on it. I've had a fair bit of experience pushing TT power switches and I assure you that letting go too soon in App 7.481 produces nothing. Keeping it pressed for several seconds was the only way to get it to power up - woe betide you if you let go before the screen flickers! |
I have to come in on the complainer side. I'm still running 7.221 and have to hold the button down for several seconds.
I'm also still having a problem in that sometimes I will hold the button down for a few seconds, let go and still get no response. I then push the button again, only to find that the GPS has actually been on but not shown anything on the screen. Having pushed the button a second time has now turned it off and I get to start all over again.
I am looking forward to upgrading to 8.whatever to fix this. _________________ Mike

I seem to have messed up my 520T trying to get ASR working - which it still isn't!
Does anyone have a working link to the 8.010 firmware as the rapidshare ones all seem to fail now. I have a copy of it on my home dekstop pc but I am currently away with just my laptop.
Thanks in advance. |

Not seen it delete the PGPSW cameras warnings - but it does seem to reset which sound is used for over speed limit warning
But at least TMC seems working now (though still seem to be in reception black spot ) _________________ J. |

for those that bemoan the switch on delay! some form of explanation in the case of my One XL's quick start guide (v.7x):
Quote: | Switching on and off
To switch your TomTom One XL on or off press & hold the On\Off button for 2 seconds. The first time you switch on, it may take 20 seconds to start.
______________________________________________________
note: In rare cases, your One XL may not start correctly. If this happens, press the reset button, then switch on the device again.

mine actually took around 15 seconds to start the first time I powered it up, but subsequently it took 2 or 3 seconds - which didn't bother me at all! since the update to v.8 it switches on instantly - again this makes little difference when using the device, but means I have to be more careful how I store it when it's not in use, so as not to allow anything to accidentally press the on\off button.
The "Turn Restrictions" addition more than makes up for any flaws that I have so far found in the update, as there are many roads in my area that have access blocked from one end without them actually being one way streets.
I feel the relocation of the compass is a backwards step, but understand that it was probably done to aid incorporation of the multi-lane display required by Lane Guidance.
My only real gripe is with the Map Guarantee not working - but that's for another thread. _________________ iPhone 12 Pro

I've seen most of you have installed the Navcore V8 in your 720.
I tried to follow the links or do it via Tomtom home, but I don't think it is available anymore.
Do you still have the CAB files?
Can you send it to me somehow?
Thanks in advance

Unless the compass feature is properly re-instated then I am not going to update my One 3rd edition. I'm glad I read this thread before I blindly installed from Home. |

Hi gugaboy
I missed the Navcore 8 update too. If the files were still available I would probably install it but I am quite willing to wait for the official update _________________ Tomtom Go 720.

Having updated to 8.010 the quicker switch on was pretty much the only benefit for me(never bothered with the compass anyway). However,i went on a short break last weekend and i was able to use the traffic monitoring for the first time.Previously it either did'nt update at all or if it did the info was less than reliable. On the return home i became stuck in a jam due to an accident that had happened a few minutes earlier. When the Tom Tom got wind of it i was redirected to backtrack at an upcoming roundabout adding 35 mins to my arrival time.I followed the new route when i finally got to the roundabout(5 mins for about 25 yards.) I travelled about 10 miles and then the Tom Tom updated again prompting me re route and re join the road that was blocked, having travelled past the blockage. This i did and the road was now clear. The overall addition to my 3 hour initial travel time was only 15 mins saving me heaven knows how much time waiting in the jam.Well impressed with it.
One minor irritation, might not be due to the update but i never noticed it before, was on a long road(49 miles) every 3 or 4 miles it kept saying "stay on road for 47 miles" then "stay on road for 43 miles" etc etc. |

It is just in a different place, go to Change Preferences/ Status ar Preferences and you will find the menu option in there - Mike |

Hi All,
I updated my fathers TT1 3rd edition via home late Sunday night and it has installed Navcore 8.010, also it was the first time it had been connected to a PC, or more importantly TT Home it upgraded the map to v715.1689.
He was actually bought the unit as a Christmas present, so it is over 30 days old, I updated the map under "Use latest Map Guarantee" he has not been updated to the latest map, I think we are on v8 now. How do Tomtom now that his unit has not been sitting on a shelf and only just bought??

Mike am i right in thinking that Home should allow the 720 maps through LMG even though SDM has already used it for one update.
I thought i read somewhere that you could use it as many times as you wanted in those thirty days SINCE first connection, or is it only to check for an update as many times? |

LMG is valid for 30 days, but can only be used for one update - so, if a device is loaded with v710 maps and a user updates to v715 via LMG, they can't then update again to v720.
Of course, in practice, most users seem to struggle to get even one update from TomTom via LMG _________________ Andy
