I have my own waypoints in garmin's .gdb format.
In order to free POI space in my gps, I'd like to export/convert this file to an excel .csv format in order to upload it back onto my gps as an extra 'points of interest category - same as the free POI's I have ssen on this site.
I cannot seem to find the methodology to do this-
Can anyone talk me through it please? it would save me hours of retyping!

one hiccup
when i convert to a csv file, it puts all the data into one single cell and not three. any way around this?
I've also noticed in the database of free pois you offer, the order from left to right is longitude then latitude then detail
is it necessary to maintain this lay out? |

In the free poi's files this is the format I find.
Is it necessary to always maintain this format?
and what are the numbers in the details column? are these necessary?
;Longitude Latitude Name Details
-5.14611 50.20352 Imperial Motors 4.41873E+11

yes, garmin requires: lon,lat,name,details

:GRIN:  , let me guess, you opened the csv file in excel? try widening the column or opening it in notepad instead. it's the telephone number of the POI!!
excel changes it to that because it assumes it's a number so it 'simplifies' it to fit in the space available!

D'oh! thanks
Although babel has converted my .gbx file, it has sadly put all the information in one single column- so I have begun the laborious task of cut and pasting the 3 relevant pieces of info into three columns.
And how weird is that- it was longitude first then latitude.... totally upside down IMHO ( Grrrr !!)
still some way is better than no way!

Help!
I can't keep cut and pasting ! my fingers are numb.
babelgps has converted my .gbx file but it has sadly put all the information in one single column-
Is there a way to convert directly in the correct format?
i.e.
Longitude Latitude Name details ?
Does anyone know the method please? |

In Excel, Highlight the column, then select Data then Text to Columns.
This will present a window for you to select whether to use a delimiter or fixed width columns.
Once you are happy with the sample layout it presents, select apply.
Job done.
