OH what a dissappointment the Tomtom 730 is and only for a one single reason: it lacks, IMHO, one of the main characteristics of a comfortable car navi, the ability to power on AUTOMATICALLY when the car's ignition is turned on.
Now what the heck were the software engineers of Tomtom think when they did not include one of the main functions in the software???? It really sucks, I every time I wanna listen to MP3s installed on Tomtom, I have to push the on button when I start my car, it is so rediculous! And besides, I hate wind screen suction cups so I have embedded the unit in the ashtray - but the switch on button is located in the corner which I cannot reach without a special tool. Well it has the auto off feature but still, this one goes back to shop and will be replaced with a Garmin.
Software geeks of Tomtom, a friendly advice, act quickly and fix it!! |

I rather enjoy the long battery life of TomTom so that I can still listening to my MP3 when the ignition key is off.
Needless to say my TT can be on no matter how many times I switch on and off the car engine.
I am one of those want to take the TomTom out of the car, tour a foreign city and know how to find my way back without a map. There is not one chance in hell I would carry a car battery to have it auto-power on while walking around with my TomTom. |

But it used to be a user-selectable feature in the same way as auto-off still is.
We've been pleading with TomTom to re-instate this feature, why they haven't lord alone knows. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Don't tell us (we all agree with you). Tell them!!
In their wisdom, they got rid of heir feedback form, but you can always open a support "question" to tell them how unhappy you are. They won't change it just for one person, but it is the only way we have left to voice our opinions to them. If every one did it, I bet they WOULD take notice. |

Done already! I sent a question to Tomtom support and I was replied by the local support team that unfortunately this software version does not include the auto power on function. They also replied that they don't have an idea if it would be later included in the software. Yeah sure they don't.
Just hoping to get my voice heard so why not write about in on forums worldwide. |

Today I took my 2 weeks old Tomtom back to shop and got my euros back. Next step is to continue testing of other navi's, yesterday checked out H/K GPS-810, gotta also see Garmin 760. So now I'm telling you all Tomtom users: if you are now happy, just take your navi units back where you got it from. |

Every device has its quirks, I too would like auto power ON but I still prefer my 720 over any of the other solutions available and this minor issue would not dissuade me from keeping it. _________________ Darren Griffin |
