|

My father owns a 710 which he hasn't updated in about a year. I have offered to do this for him. Can anybody advise me as to whether any of the recent updates produce any odd effects on the above satnav unit.
Thanks in advance.

You should be OK.
v7.161 is the latest software and is stable. The recent problems have been with versions for the x20 models only.
Depending on just HOW old your software is, Home 2 may not be able to recognise your Go.
ONLY if that is the case, you need to use Home 1.6 first. Update as far as you can with that, and then use Home 2 to go further if necessary.
To update the MAPS, version 720 are the latest you can use. You will need Home 2 to buy that. |

If he uses RDS-TMC leave it alone running version 6 software as this works correctly in the UK, the version 7 releases do not work correctly with this device connected - if you don't have RDS-TMC then do as Andy has suggested to get the latest software/ maps etc - Mike |

Sorry to be a pest but are you saying that if he is using RDS-tmc ( which is something he uses often) that i shouldn't update to v.7.161. |

Correct, the device will still work and it will receive RDS-TMC data but the delay durations will be either blank or simply show one minute irrespective of the true data being sent to the device.
We are still awaiting an update to fix this issue which has been around for UK based users since the launch of Navcore 7 - keep your eyes on the forum, when a fix is released I am sure this will be announced - Mike |

Sorry if I gave duff information...
In my defence, you didn't mention he was using RDS-TMC, but as I thought that problem was only on the later software for the x20 models I STILL would have told you it was OK .
I've learnt something today! |
