7,481 does indeed support SDHC so that theory is out of the window, get a card reader to put the card in to a USB socket then you can really see what is going on. Something like This One, although where they dream up the idea of 43 different card types supported is beyond me - Mike |

Mike,
What would be your recommended sequence for diconnecting the TomTom GO device from a PC with Windows XP O/S ?
Assume that TomTom home hasn't been launched during the connection process.

In the bottom right corner of your PC screen will be an icon for USB connected devices, right click this and select disconnect from the pop-up menu. If it then pops a new window up requesting which device click the TomTom where listed - Mike |

And then the GO does a re-boot right ?.....
You let it boot up and then when it says do you want to connect to a computer Y/N ... you say NO.
Then power the device off before you pull it out of the cradle.
Am I being too cautious by doing it this long winded ?

If it works for you then carry on this way although I probably wouldn't bother powering the device off prior to disconnection, unless you don't need to use it straight away that is - Mike |

Hi all,
I've noticed that in My Computer, under "Devices with Removable Storage", before I switch on my TomTom there are only 5 devices shown - but after switching it on I have 7 showing. The last device shown IS the TomTom showing just the 489 mb memory with all the folders in it, but when I click on the other "Devices" they all just come up saying "Please insert disk". Clearly, an additional device IS coming up as it goes from showing 5 to 7!!!!
Any ideas why? |

Open Windows Explorer then connect the TomTom, keep a watchful eye as to which drive letters appears, one will be the TomTom, the other should be the SD card in the TomTom. Once identified that the card has a true drive letter right click it and select "Format" -
DO NOT FORMAT THE TOMTOM DEVICE ITSELF THOUGH

With the TomTom switched off, the devices showing are:B, E, G, H, I.
When I switch it on, the devices are: B, E, F, G, H, I, J. (J still being the TomTom itself).
I was under the impression that the last 2 drives would be the TomTom and the card - am I still safe to assume I should try and format the "F" drive? |

Right click it and see what it reports it as, if it cannot see the card or want to format it let Windows do this, then you should be able to use it - Mike |

Annoyingly, when I click on the drive, it just comes up saying "There is no disk in drive F".
I am baffled therefore as to why it is showing up a 7th device, when it won't let me do anything with it. |

Perhaps TT is being confused by your list of drives?
Having B, E, G, H, I is a little odd!
Have you any other Card Readers or extra hard drives connected? |

I recently bought a Sandisk 4GB SHDC card, plugged it into my GO720 and it worked fine without doing anything at all.
If your PC is also having probs recognising the card, there may be a problem with it.
Do you have a digital camera that takes SD cards ? you could try that and see if you can format it in the camera ?
Good luck

I bought a Sandisk SDHC "Ultra" card that came with its own mini reader as standard. _________________ Mike -

I do have card readers but I don't attach them any more as I do have some slots on my actual computer tower now that i tend to use. However, the drives for the card readers would only show if the reader itself was plugged in.
B - is an external floppy disk drive
E - is my DVD drive
G -}
H -} These 3 are the card slots in my tower unit

Only the x20 and x30 TomTom devices support SDHC you CANNOT use such a card with a TomTom One - Mike |
