Jaguar Denso DVD + POI's

My wife's 2004 X type has a DVD satnav unit made by Denso. It uses Navteq software on a double layer 6.96GB DVD.

With my dual layer DVD burner it should be relatively simple to add the camera database POI's if I can get them into the correct format, and as long as I only produce a DVD for my own use and keep the original I don't think I'll be infringing any copyright.

The in built POI's seem to be in a folder labeled IDX. are any of the database downloads already in this format?

It has IDX files labeled
POIDT001 - POIDT065 and POISR100 -POISR115
which I assume are the POI files as well as:

ARGSR
ARGSRD
ARGSRF
ARGSRG
ARGSRJ
ARGSRL
these seem to be POI headings with restaurants, shops, entertainment etc.

ARSNC100 - ARSNC115
ARSSR
The only clue to what these are is the wording MESH SEARCH at the top of the page of code

FMCDT001
this one says AREA CODE DICTIONARY followed by some code and a lot of geographical area names like Gwent and Aberdeenshire

FWYSR100 - FWYSR115
these are filled with road, junction and town names

ITSSR100 - ITSSR115
these are all the intersections

PSTSR100 - PSTSR115
these are Post Codes

SADSR100 - SADSR115
these are Street Addresses

along with one ZONESEL file and one ZONEZSRC file

Edit:
Just realised these are only the index files and that the actual info is in the KWI files outside the folder and loose on the DVD. These are:
ALLDATA
DICVCE56
INDEXDAT
KGRPDAT
LOADING
METADATA
SPEC
STDVCE
plus 2 DAT files:
VIRTUAL0
VIRTUAL1

So I suppose they would need editing to add any POI's.

Well after a fair bit of research it seems that there is software out there for sale for editing Kiwi files and adding POI's to the map data on Denso and some other in car units.

http://www.datawest.co.jp/en/navi02.html has the PDF instruction manual for using the KIWI Format Viewer which seems to have some limited editing abilities built into it. Unfortunately some of the POI search features are only supported in Japanese Windows which may cause a problem.

Most built in GPS systems that are factory fit offer little if any POI support, some might use POI as a "navigate to" option but even fewer devices will support POI warnings, which is what you really need for Speed Cameras.

I only point this out as the option to "Navigate to" a "Speed Camera" is not somthing many would have a need for. If you spend hours trying to get this working only to find the device won't perform POI warnings then it may have been a gross waste of time. Check out the POI related options the device offers before going too far - Mike

As far as I can tell from my research so far all the Denso based in car nav systems and the Kenwood aftermarket units that also use the KIWI file system can show POI's on screen and sound a warning when you are near them, I know mine can.

I am in the same position here.

However I have been playing with the Nav Menu on the Jaguar and there doesn't seem to be any way to set up a POI to warn when near.

If anyone else has any further information on this it would be useful.

I probably have the skills to hack the Jaguar DVD to work out how to add POIs but right now it seems a pointless exercise.

Just for info I have a 07 S Type with touch screen.

I have not cracked this yet.

I use a RoadPilot MicroGo which is small and unobtrusive to provide camrea warnings.

The Denso system used in the Jaguar is also used in other vehicles. I believe that LandRover is one and my Saab 9-5 is another.

A way of adding PoIs would be really welcome. I had a look 18 months ago when I got my car, but have had no luck. But I've just spent a week on holiday with a Tomtom GO on the passenger's lap as I have mislaid the windscreen bracket....

I could never recommend a built-in satnav. Fortunately I usually drive around a known area for most of my work, so I use the satnav for the "last few yards" to a new address.

But I have to take the Tomtom for holidays. Firstly for the info and PoIs, but also for the extra waypoints (Denso has a max of five!!). But mainly because I refuse to sit in the car in a hotel carpark programming in the route for tomorrow, when I can do it in the comfort of the hotel bar on the Tomtom.
