By that time, they'll be bringing out an early GO5260 with no maps, no nav instructions and a beautiful broken Bluetooth link with forward compatibility to play MP18s on a dustbin lid. _________________ Dennis

DennisN..I give up...I'm going to do some road free yacht sailing in The Solent instead..So its Garmin time at the end of the month (My pension won't get me a liberty pass for the QM2). Won't need the Aldimeter at sea level. |

TomTom's testing has always been questionable, but this release highlights a very serious issue in that this product has not been tested. Yes I can accept that maybe non UK units have been purchased and these do not have English TTS, but there's no Home software that supports 930.
So in summary they have released a half finished product, thats not been tested, and cannot supported. Even if this product did work the new functionallity isn't worth the price premium. |

Yes but like the other ubits it gives no indication of the lenght of delay if any, so you could be heading headlong into a 1 hour tailback and the TMC will not reroute you as all the delays show as () Minutes. Whereas on GPRS Traffic you get the delay time in minutes so you can be rerouted, this is not a *30 specific issue it affects all models using TMC and current firmwares |

Oh, so high tide and low tide have the same 'Alditude' then?
Does TMC work in the Solent?
A dumb question, but is altitude really of any use or interest if you don't have truly reresentative 3D maps?
Unless you're a keen walker (in which case you'll be using something other than a road map - hopefully!!), altidude is possibly oly useful if you're trying to forecast weather and calculating the difference in air pressure between sea level and your current position.
Or am I missing a vital link somewhere along the way? _________________ Andy

This topic comes up both here and on a number of other technical and design forums. I personally see little use for altitude but feedback from other users is contrary to my view and I'm happy to accept that I appear to be in the minority.
Some find the info useful and or interesting, perhaps when touring through mountainous areas it is useful to know your height. Either way, it's data that is available and could easily be added if only to the GPS Status screen. _________________ Darren Griffin |

My navigation device shows AMSL (Average Mean Sea Level) in Yards on the main map screen. |

Returning to the topic javascript:emoticon(' ')
Wink
To summarise:
- The 930 is a different colour and has a "sticky" screen
- Currently available stock (from Pixmania) is best avoided because it isn't UK spec
- There is a big price difference between the 920 and 930
- The only significant difference is the application and mapping which we hope will be released for the 920 (at a cost) in due course
Uncertainties:
- Is there a "firmware" difference, and can 920 firmware be updated?
- Could there be hardware differences that aren't obvious?
All this aimed at answering the question: buy a 920 now or wait for a UK spec 930? _________________ TomTom 930T |

GPS_fan...Yes...Its a joke between DennisN and a few others regarding a mysterious 'm' on a v8 loaded into a 520T...Here..... www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=66152
I DO know The Solent well, and thankfully wasn't one of many who went aground on Ryde Sands on last years Round-The-Island-Race. No TMC but AIS is a must on a Channel Race... |
