This may be an unusual thread as most people have trouble with the screen beiing too dim......
My recently purchased 520T is good but I wsould like to reduce the brightness of the screen at night (Arctica colours). I have the brightness control set to minimum but still find the screen illumintes the rest of the car.
Does anyone know of a fix or a screen protector that is tinted? |

I use a modified version of the Scenic Night colour scheme from the Color Scheme Editor site. In the country, the background is totally black and in the city it's very dark red (OK I have a Renault so it works for me ). That, along with 0% brightness on the night scheme, cuts down most of the light coming from the unit.
Artica didn't come on the OneXL but other default ones have lighter backgrounds so that might as well.
Unfortunately, you can't change the blue bar at the bottom to something matching the rest of the scheme . _________________ Gerry

Thanks I'll try that but I think a screen saver may be the best way. Perhaps one of the anti-glare ones may help. |

Is there a "Battery saving preferences" option on the 520? On the XL, it's page 3 of preferences. You could choose to turn the screen off completely or at least between instructions.
Also there's a "Turn off map display" under "Safety preferences" (hit done a couple of times to get to the page) on mine. With this, you can just have the layout of the next junction on screen on a dark background.
Not sure if both can work together as mine won't turn the screen off in demo mode.
I haven't any knowledge or experience of hardware based solutions to this so you may be on your own. If you have a go, please post a review in case others are thinking along the same lines. _________________ Gerry

Hi Marty-Party
I do not have a 520 but I do have the 720 and I also find the screen at night too bright. Its ok during the day, in fact if the sun is bright I set the brightness control to maximum setting. I want the screen On (its more important to me than the voice commands) but at night the glow does tend to be rather distracting even when on minimum setting.
It’s a pity really and I hope someone comes up with the answer. _________________ Tomtom Go 720.

Of course we may be able to find a darkened screen protector but this will then reduce the brightness during the day - can't win really !!!!
Maybe TomTom can do a bit more with a firmware change. You'd think they would know it's too bright at night after all the testing that they do. |
