|
|
I Have a Navman iCN 550 and use the PocketGPSWorld Speed Cameras downloadable form this site under my membership. When I first started using them the 150 yard warning seemed to work fine. The last three times I have downloaded the database the audible warning occurs at the Speed Camera itself, i.e too late!.
The steps I follow and measures I use are:
- Making sure I have the latest firmware
- Erasing all trace of the any previous POI speed camera databases in the Navman
- Resetting the Navman after erasing
- Downloading the latest database
- Most important of all - making sure that 150 yards is set as the distance a warning is given before uploading in SmartST desktop
The last time I downloaded the database (Two days ago) I set the warning distance to 300 yards. After setting this distance I get a warning of about 25 yards. OK on a B road but not on a Motorway.
Thanks in anticipation,
Mark

Hi and welcome to the forum.
How accurate are the cameras in question in relation to your device? Mabye you could let us know a couple or cameras that you know are giving these erroneous warnings, or is is all the cameras you come accross? _________________ Dom

It is unlikely that the database is out of hilter as it is only made up of numbers, but if this were the case more people would have noticed it! It sound more like some sort of gps lag. Have you noticed anything else being overly delayed, not that most current devices are that accurate anyway! _________________ Dom

everything else seems ok. When I first used the databases on the unit the warnings came up well in advance, now they occur at the camera itself. This obviously means that the screen has to be glanced at more frequently to make sure there are none coming up.
Maybe this is a Navman issue.

Not really unless you have done something to it recently like an update or reinstall. On my 750 I have the warnings set to 0.3mi or 500 yards. That seem to suit me fine.
Check your settings on the device itself in the poi menu, if all is ok, then try it with a higher number. Failing that do a clear out and reinstall. _________________ Dom

Hi Mostdom,
thanks for you help, much appreciated. At the outset I left the defaults as they were - 150 yards. After the last download and all the problems I changed this to 300 yards as said in a previos email. looking at your latest reply I will try a higher setting of 500 yards. It still doesn't explin why the distance warnings dont correspomd to what you actually get. Anyway, I will try it and report back.

Once upon a time I too tried it at 300 yards but still managed to get too close to a camera to be of any real use. and as mobile cameras can face you, that'll limit the distance too. I just thought I wasn't registering the warning in time, concentration elsewhere! _________________ Dom
