SpeedCam, as this is your first post into this thread could you detail what the problem is? you have obviously taken it up with TomTom but it could be something new to the rest of us - Mike
Speedcam - my last update was along the lines of we are working very hard to fix it and it will be fixed in the next release but we don't know when that will be keep checking with Home etc.
I seem to have this reply to almost every log I have raised with TT!

Sorry my problems originate from the other related thread 'TomTom launch 7.480 for GO x20 devices' page 3 where I identified the TMC issues.
I've not escalated my issues and suggest that people should be dismissed due to the way they have handled my call. As a result I have had an instant response, offers of free 12 traffic subscriptions etc etc. It's still being escalated as I write. It's about time TomTom took notice of their customers problems.

Dammit, I wish you had posted this half an hour earlier when I was arguing with TT about getting a free GPRS subscription until they fix RDS-TMC.
PLEASE can you quote the reply you had, especially the name of the person offering the subscription - my current TT "Handler" - Ingmar L (UK) doesn't know anything about it, so I need the name of somebody at TT support who does. _________________ Dennis

Please don't drop me in it, but the representative is David C. (UK), I have to say I submitted the images that you posted in the original thread showing the TMC issues so thay have no excuse, David's response:
May we apologise for the delay in responding to your query.
We have still not found a resolution for this challenge that you have been encountering. For this reason we would like you to check the following link:
If you have a compatible phone with access to full GPRS we would like to offer you one year of TomTom Traffic service free of charge while we continue to look for a solution to the challenge that you are experiencing. Please let us know if this is something that would interest you.
I recently got offered a free subscription to TomTom Safety Cameras (er, no thanks!), for all the hassles I have had from TT, from the Traffic Map issues etc with 7.480, and them telling me to roll back to 7.221 until the next version was released, and then of course having 7.481 do all the same issues, and thus having to roll back again to 7.221 until the NEXT supposed version comes out.
So knowing how rubbish TT's Safety Cameras are, I politely declined, and stipulated they add another year to my Wireless Traffic Subscription instead - especially in light of this being the main issue I was having problems with anyway with 7.48x.
They duly obliged without a second's thought, and I am now subscribed until March 2010 (yes 2010).
It would be nice if they offered anyone making a similar complaint the same deal. I submitted plenty of evidence in the form of traffic report details, times and notes on what the traffic bar didn't display and just got a new-release-coming-very-soon reply.
The bottom line is anyone with an x20 T device have simply wasted their money. Even TT's "free" GPRS solution offered to a few still doesn't come without extra cost (data).

Well done Shad.
I cannot use GPRS, my company will not enable it on my phone and I am not going to pay for that on my personal mobile. So for the time being I am stuck with RDS-TMC on 7.221.
I found that with 7.480/1 reception appeared better as I got a lock as soon as i turned on and would lose that now and again during the journey, but overall more lock than not, whereas with 7.221 I struggled to get a lock at all and when I did it was too late as I was in the traffic jam.

Any lawyers out there? BBC Watchdog? Top Gear?
You could always try contacting BBC Watchdog yourself - some companies still have dedicated departments to deal with Watchdog complaints, so the programme still carries a bit of weight
...and you never know, your complaint might just be the one that makes it worth their while investigating
At the same time, in any future correspondence you have with TomTom, make it clear that you're copying that correspondence to Watchdog - this is often enough to encourage a company to take you more seriously than they might have been previously
Good luck _________________ Andy

I guess that your current 'paid' subscription takes you up to March 2009, then the 'free' year would naturally take you up 2010 - even though that sounds such a long way off with 2010 being a psychological barrier

I think what we need here is a TomTom Solutions Topic. Where we identify a problem and quote the solution person and reply which gave some satisfaction.
I'm thinking of the post above by SpeedCam, giving a quote thus ...

RDS-TMC not working

I am recalling the Latest Map Guarantee Problem, where many of us got the solution by telling our "handler" to refer it to John G. (UK) (don't quote me, I haven't checked the name) who had provided the latest maps when Home and other "handlers" were saying either there is no latest map or you're not entitled to it etc. I know I did this after getting my first successful latest map, I simply quoted the name to the next "handler" and it went smoothly as silk. I also passed the name and a quote to others who then got the map update immediately.
We all know that TT don't seem to have any internal communication system to give their support people a clue, so why don't we? I've been tearing my hair out getting nowhere over the RDS-TMC for a month now whilst others have got the GPRS temporary solution apparently fairly easily.
I suppose what I'm hoping for is another of Andy_P2002's excellent useful tables with columns for "Problem", "Refer To" and "Quote". _________________ Dennis

That sounds like a great idea, Dennis.
I just hope it's easy to get put through to Joe B (UK) or whoever - my experience is that when people try to re-route a call, it invariably results in getting disconnected and having to initiate another call
EDIT - additionally, if all similar enquiries/complaints are directed towards the same individual(s), it will also help TomTom realise how big a problem any issue is - rather than separate communications getting 'lost' in the plethora of 'handlers'
For example, if all verification issues were to be directed toward DennisN, he would be fully aware of any issues and how significant these may be. Whereas, if these issues were posted in the normal way, there are several verifiers, mods and team members who could respond and anyone may overlook a post and lose sight of the 'bigger picture'
NOTE - this is just an example and I'm not suggesting that anybody changes current practices _________________ Andy

That's another thing - I NEVER ring them. Phone calls might suffer the ignominy of being off the record (so you can't follow up on them) and certainly I prefer to get my thoughts in order and present them carefully.
But I'd happily phone if I had any confidence it would get the desired result! _________________ Dennis

Fully agree, never phone, raise a log and just keep re opening it until you get an answer. The problem is then recorded and the support agents are then marked on the way they resolve the calls.

Yes mate - and indeed the reason that is the case is that you are meant to get a one month free trial...
I got no such thing when I signed up, so had to AGAIN, fight tooth and nail, repeatedly emailing back and forth, before eventually they caved in, and added a free month to my sub.
So took it out on Feb 9th 2008.
Expired Feb 9th 2009 (paid subscription).
Added free month, after they admitted defeat, so became 9th march 2009.
Now, add another 12 months free, and it's 9th March 2010 it expires.
As I am on T-Mobile Web and Walk, data is basically free.
So this means more reliable Traffic, until 9th March 2010, unless I change along the way to HD.
I wonder what discounts existing Plus Traffic holders will get, as an incentive to persuade us to move to HD Traffic (I think they will, as ultimately the revenue stream is better for them on that), and especially what someone with TWO YEARS left to run like me, might be able to badger them down to!
By the way, your new avatar confused me for a while - but I like it!
