Update on the picnic today.
When we set off, I had a lovely full green disk from the RDS-TMC and in fact kept it for 90% of the trip - Keynsham, Gloucester, Hereford, Builth Wells, Abegavenny, Newport, Keynsham - some 200 miles, 6 1/2 hours gentle drive.

At first, although the nice lady said Traffic situation has changed, it gave no indication on the traffic bar. When I tapped and looked, it had 3 incidents, two congestions and one high winds. Later, because I went a different route, the congestions disappeared and the high wind showed on the traffic bar, 190 miles away (we were originally going to do a larger tour and this was on the Severn Bridge coming back). Later another change showed a lane closure 30 miles away and when I tapped and looked, there were 2 incidents, the lane closure and the high winds. Later, it changed to no indication, but 3 incidents. Later still, only one incident showed the high winds on the side bar.

So I'm guessing here, that the system can possibly indicate on the side bar for one or two incidents, but will ONLY show the first one. For three or more incidents, seems to not show anything.

None of the indications gave any sign of what delay I might incur.

My remote control started working again (rather, the 920T started responding to it again - it already worked when I tested it on a 720).

This is as good as visiting a theme park, but without the terror of the gut churning!

PS - You're wrong Mike - there is a Navcore 7 which does not have the 1 minute delay problem - 7.480. Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

PPS We had a lovely day out in some beautiful sunshine and got two dozen duck eggs - a shame because I only wanted a tray, but that was 20 and she said I'd have to take another 4 to make two dozen because she couldn't work out how much 20 is at £2.50 a dozen. I didn't have Anita with me and I had left Vera in the van, so I couldn't work out that one and a half dozen was easy to price and was only two short of a tray full - Vera pointed it out as soon as I put them in the back and told her why there were so many. Embarassed

I have upgraded to the buggy new version too and tbh i'm shocked that tt have released this v with such a big problem, problems i'm getting was at first i lost all poi's but a reset got them all back now i am getting problems on the "crossing" section i.e streets with no numbers.

I'm sure i made a back up if so what and how do i install it back over the 7.4v? i just hope i made a back up.

If i decide to wait when do people itk think tt will release a replacement?

If you have a backup of the device I would wipe the unit and copy the back up on to the device.
Just to be on the safe side I would take a full copy of the data that is currently on the 720, BEFORE you wipe the TomTom use #1 from the FAQ page Here to do this - Mike

Bit late i restored it, but the version is 7.480 i'm sure this is the bugg ridden one! I could of sworn i made an original back up somewhere will have to check my other files.

Strangely though when i restored it seemed cured and the "crossing" problem up to now is no longer however a new puzzling problem has arisen, when i use the Spoken address dialogue it lets me speak my city in but when i use any streets names it wont let me speak.. i then have to manually type it in ....BUT! the most strangest thing is it only does this in my home city name!!! any other city its fine - how do you work that one out????

BTW my home town city is Sheffield.

If you still want to go back to an earlier version have a read through page 9 of this thread, it has some links to the earlier verson and instructions on what to do - Mike

Just bought TT 720, hadn't seen the comments here about the upgrade so let it go trough aaarghh(7.480). First impressions are everything appears to work including the voice recognition. finger crossed.

This may be a daft question but I seem to recall that ITIS do not include delay times in their TMC data.

This would make it difficult to provide delay times - the long delays forecast by version 7 are surely due to speeds being "guessed" by the TT unit and multiplied by the length of the road section you are on. A 30 mile section of motorway with a single line restriction generates a long delay.

Do this make the new version worse than the old?

Haven't tried it yet but if it will get rid of the 400 minute delays for a lane closure I'll go for it Confused

Well I'm stuffed. Got the 720, first thing I did was looked for updates, didn't realise 7.480 was so recent and apparently problematic. I hadn't been following this thread since I had recently bought a Nuvi 200 wide so had been absorbed in the Nuvi threads. I don't know what I was thinking about but went ahead and updated the 720 out of the box, (it was at 7.20 with Home 2.2) and forgot about the back up. AAARRGGH, so I guess I'm stuck with 7.480, what a fool! One thing I've noticed is the battery life is crap, about an hours running on the battery and the orange low battery warning is on. Also noticed that I can't seem to get an audible warning on on camers. I take it there is no way of returning to 7.20?

Quite true, the problem is that the delays predicted by Navcore 6 were pretty much the same as the delays info provided by the GPRS service, so at some point TT did have the algorithm about right for calculating the delays. It looks like now they have just given up on it - if you can't fix it then remove it as HD Traffic is just around the corner! This makes the RDS-TMC useless for route recelculation as it doesn't have any delay info, so a delay of 12 minutes may well turn into a half hour detour if you recelculate to avoid the delay.

I am submitting a formal written complaint to TT as the unit still does not function as advertised, I can live with reception problems but bodging the software is a step too far.

Well the upgrade has been a plus for me so far. The voice recognition (spoken dialogue) feature was disabled on my 720 when I got it (Australian version) and it is now enabled. Had to re-select voice and cursor as others have reported.

Does anyone know when TT will release an update that has no bugs and will cure the 7.4V ?

I just wanted to warn all that voice recog (input address via dialog) stops working at least on the 920 following firmware 7.221 to 7.480. Please refrain from upgrading firmware until a newer fix is release this week.

Regards,
Shawny
