Dear Group, I'll show my ignorance and throw myself upon your mercy. I have just acquired a new (although it's an old model) Viewsonic V37 PDA. It has Pocket PC 2002 installed tho i have the necessary to upgrade it to 2003.
What kit do i need to buy to be able to use it as a car sat nav system please?
Many Thanks |

Being an old device devoid of Bluetooth you will struggle to find a GPS receiver to connect to the unit, with more modern better equipped devices available for very low cost a newer device might be the better option to be honest.
Even though it supports SDIO, the chances are an SDIO GPS receiver with memory card capability won't work with such an old OS (even if you upgrade it) - the SDIO GPS receivers with built in card readers have been found to be problematic in getting working reliably even on modern equipment - Mike |

Thanks very much Mike. Yes i take your point about the lack of bluetooth, and in an ideal world i would get a different device. But the thing is, is that i've acquired the device for a song basically, and while i've no burning need for a satnav i just wondered if i could get it going with minimum about of expense as a little project.
Following your most helpful reply i had a little surf 'n search around the net and came up with this custom made jobby, what do you think?

Please don't think i'm disregarding your excellent advice, i just wondered, seeing as this was obviously designed for the unit in question whether it would suffice?
Many Thanks |

That's what you need but this is an old device and sourcing it is going to be the difficult bit. I doubt any retailers will have the correct part but you may find one on eBay. _________________ Darren Griffin |
