Hi there, the database for my location seems to be pretty outdated, and I get around a bit, so I thought I would help get the database right for my area (Dorset).
Can you tell me the correct method of sending the changes and to whom so that I do not spend ages in checkpoint adding places to create a list of useless information :-)

Assuming that you're using CheckPOInt, you really need to be using CheckPOInt 2.0.2. Later versions have at least two problems - the textual description of the POI is not recorded in the CheckPOInt.ov2 file and false POIs are deleted from the original overlay file, rather than flagged in CheckPOInt.ov2.
If you're using a later version of CheckPOInt.ov2 and synchronising with POIplace, from memory it becomes totally impossible to record POIs to submit to the PocketGPS database.
Assuming you are using CheckPOInt 2.0.2, send your CheckPOInt.ov2 file to cameras@pocketgpsworld.com (or should that now be cameras@pocketgpsworld.com Darren?).

Hi David, I am using the 3.02 as I am using TT3, and the old one does not seem to work with this.(?)
If this is the case (I am not syncing with poiplace) what should one do?

I'm afraid I can't help until TomTom get round to sending me a copy of Navigator 3. Despite my extensive participation in these forums, I have no more priority than anyone else for my upgrade - the same is true of many other experienced people here. I hope my copy will ship in the next few days - but until then I can't help further.
Maybe someone else knows whether CheckPOInt 2.0.2 works with Navigator 3 or not (and if not, whether it can be persuaded to work in any way).

I'm just testing this config now and it seems to work ok for me.
IPAQ 2210 + ROM 1.10 + CF GPS + TT3.01
One question I do have with Speed Camera DB...
Should Red Light cameras be in the database, and if not what's the best way of removing them - should they be re-recorded as a red light camera of as a false POI?
Cheers,
Ian. |

Hi Ian,
Red Light cameras should be removed from the speed camera database. I believe that Darren has plans to set up databases for mobile speed check sites and also for Red Light cameras as well.
If you use the Map screen in TTNav and tap the POI icon of the Red Light camera masquerading as a GATSO camera, you’ll get the camera’s id. Make a note of the id and send it to the following email address (and remove the spaces):
cameras @ PocketGPSWorld.com
Don't forget to include a brief note on the location and why the camera should be removed.
